Current state of wine market

On a different note, some of our distributors are taking some positive moves. Several are dramatically lowering minimum order levels. Not mentioning names, but those sitting in their ivory towers in NYC obviously couldn’t grasp that jacking the minimum up to $500 wasn’t a good plan. We just eliminated brands and substituted another wine with different distributors. $500 became $300, and if you don’t quite make $300, we still want the order!. Others are following suit, reducing their mins even lower.

I always wondered the reasoning behind driving 150 miles from their warehouse to hit the Kroger down the street, but not fulfilling our $300 order.

$500 min for Kentucky ? I’m shocked. I’m pissed at $300.

I think the Noo Yorkers finally grasp they were losing business. $300, I can normally work with, $500 I was going elsewhere. The other guys are mostly $200-$250 now.

Another winery winding down, this one is a bummer for me. Loved their wine. :frowning: Will be loading up on the final sale…

I don’t think that’s it at all - the style that is. The price, on the other hand, is the BIG problem.

I think there are plenty of folks who like that style - and they can scratch that itch with Paso stuff much cheaper . . . for now.

Bummer - unfortunately it sounds as if they bit off more than they could chew, so to speak

Who did they sell their vineyards to?

Cheers

Finger Lakes Property on the market
26 acres and a winery, tasting room, etc

Looks like they’re rolling out the library wines this week and next:

Per Sonoma County records, looks like Freestone Ridge was sold to an individual based in Berkeley. That property had a 3-bedroom home on it.

I had to sleuth a bit more for the second property but I believe it’s a vineyard on Taylor Lane in Occidental. SoCo records show that transacting in June 2025 and now registered to the same address that a “Capiaux Cellars” is in Napa.

Some of their ancillary bottlings have been in West Coast closeout stores in the last year or so. I tried one but it was a little too edgy for me.

So a little too earthy/acidic and lacking fruit?

This was one of their ancillary bottlings. I thought it was weird but I don’t know if that was the varietal or their style.

As of a week or so ago, the Redwood City Costco (#29) had some of their Chardonnay for 18 bucks.

But can you explain what weird means to you? It’s not very helpful.

I don’t know why but I didn’t take notes of this bottle. I just recall it was strange.
