Cupcake Vineyards Red Velvet NV California Red Wine

My kindergartener got to go the grocery store today for the first time in a long time. This one being on the DC side of the border, they sell wine, and he apparently saw a display of this and decided he had to bring one home for daddy because he really likes wine. He would not relinquish it, brought it to the checkout himself, kept it in the cupholder of his car seat, and handed it to me as soon as he bounded in the door. Definite 100 pointer. Have not opened yet.

Will be the greatest wine you ever tasted.

Well, the most sentimental…

Holy shit man. My nearly 2 year old just started saying wine and pointing to a wine glass. I hope he has better taste than your kid!

That’s awesome!! You better make sure you load up on birth-year wines for that guy!

this was one of the wines we did when our group did boxed wines. Was MUCH better than expected. Sadly, not available around us now. My wife was looking for this for wine for one of her groups.

Have you checked the Cellartracker scores?

Agree

This. I’d cherish this one. Save the empty.

The existence of Cupcake wines is part of what has kept me from ever tasting Cakebread wines. In my mind, both sound the same and not in a good way.

That said, your kid is adorable. Wrap the bottle up and it can his gift to you in whatever upcoming holiday you guys observe. Have a glass. Take a picture. Use the rest for marinara sauce and/or onion soup.

That’s a wine that could have a very special place in the cellar. I agree with others, it’s going to be important to have a few birth year wines set aside for this little guy.

Did they check his ID when he bought the wine? Under age drinking again. I buy the occasional Cupcake as a week night drinker. The Somm Journal did a very positive piece on the winery and the female winemaker. They are decent supermarket wines. The pinot is the best one.

Cakebread is a last name, but I get it!

Be careful. There may be many more Cupcakes in your future.

I fear that your son may have pegged you as a wuss, Keith:

:joy:
Kindergarteners have extensive gender-affirmative education these days. I’ve heard some eye-opening comebacks on the subject from kids that age. If there was a message here, it’s more likely he was telling daddy to get with the times.

Better yet, save the bottle unopened. Put it in a prominent spot in the cellar.

Your kindergartener needs to shop at a more upscale supermarket!

Awesome.

Keith I know you as a good human, a good family man. I love reading this thread. And look forward to the future, some of the coolest moments I have had this past year with my 22-year-old son, post-graduation, I’ve been enjoying fine bourbon entirely on his recommendations. The time together is beyond price.

Hysterical!

I heard he looks forward to sharing this bottle with his son on his 18th birthday. I’d recommend stashing a case, since there are no great old wines, only great bottles!
