Croatian Pošip -- wine from Hvar island (Tomić?)

Hello from Hvar island (Hvar town) – I’m in the Dalmatian islands for 10 days and we’re hitting a few wineries here. Curious if there are any Croatian wine fans on here, specifically the white wines. The reds can also be fabulous, but on the islands there’s nothing like a crisp Pošip white to pair up with fresh Adriatic fish.

I’m specifically trying to find a US importer of Hvar or Korčula wines. Any pointers are appreciated.

Cheers

I love the stuff. The best importer to me is a Croatian specific importer. www.croatianpremiumwine.com
They have the Grgic wines from Korkula. They also have the Testament wines. Enjoy.

If you’re still in Hvar, I hope you have checked out Duboković!

I’m no expert, but find yourself some Grk from anyone who makes it. Bire is the only one I know.

Danch & Granger Selections imports Croatian wine and is based in the SF Bay Area. Eric Danch is very knowledgeable and experienced.

Plenty to explore and since your on the island why not try Caric http://vinohvar.hr/english/

They have a white Bogdanjuša that might be interesting.

Ahearne makes good wines on the island as well.

These guys seem to be able to ship within US as well (wider selection for Europe)

I have like other vintages of Ahearne Wild Skins, Coronica makes good wines in general and the basic Mavazija can be quite good depending on the vintage.

If the Bire box gets back in action go for it! As others have mentioned Grk is a great variety.

Marastina is also nice from the Dalmatian coast and inland wines like better Grasevina should not not be forgotten in the Croatian wine drinking routine of white wines.

If you didn’t already make sure you find a peka serving restaurant somewhere country side is more likely to be better. You need to order a day in advance but totally worth it and octopus is usually a great option but whatever else you might enjoyed more will do the trick.
