Criminal (EDIT: or silly, if you like) pricing on 2016 Produttori Crus

Have other West Coast retailers actually received any of the 2016 Crus yet? My guess is that there’s no reason for WDC to try and ship these between warehouses (if they even can, legally) because the NY and CA warehouses are each served by (different) distributors who carry the wines. WDC’s CA warehouse has generally carried Produttori wines so I assume they will get some of the 2016 Crus and list them once they have arrived and been delivered to WDC’s CA warehouse. WDC’s NY warehouse listed them first because the East Coast distributor(s) that serve that warehouse got them first. But that is just a guess.

Was curious about this too, Produttori Cru’s have been sold in the west coast through various retailers (big and small). K&L, Artisan Wine Depot, Flatiron Wines, etc. but I have not seen any of them in the usual places. Are they just delayed or have I missed the boat?

Looks like Winedeals.com has some decently priced 2016 riservas.

Did anyone here get a notice from Empire today? They cancelled my Produttori order today as they said there was a mix-up with the importer quantities. Just wondering if anyone else had the same experience or if they actually got their 2016 Produttori Crus from them.

My shipment of Asili and Rabaja from Empire arrived a couple weeks ago, but my order was placed on March 16. I think I got lucky and picked up some that weren’t supposed to be on the website yet.

Ordered 6 bottles of Rabaja for $69 from them. Checked out and paid. Two days later, my order was cancelled. The cheapest I can find it now is $100 and some places are charging $119. Other crus in small quantities are ~$75 at wine.com. Seems like Rabaja is what everyone wants.

I wouldn’t lose sleep over it. I think they are just trickling it in. My guess is that it will be all over the place in another four weeks. Still, Asili and Rabaja will go fast.

Hopefully this is true, I did hear from a local store owner that Produttori wines changed distributors for CA, so he will not be getting the Produttori Crus this year (hard to deal with new distributor).

What is this cuvée about? I have never seen or heard of it until the Envoyer email yesterday. Anyone gotten the opportunity to taste it?

2016 Produttori del Barbaresco Don Fiorino Riserva

Sounds like it’s the best riserva barrels from any vineyard pit together? Is it worth the extra coin?

AG has seemingly balanced notes on it: “The 2016 Barbaresco Riserva is a multi-vineyard bottling from the Produttori that blends lots from the nine vineyards that are bottled separately (except the Asili and Pajè because of low production) along with other holdings such as Cottà and Faset that aren’t bottled separately. It is a powerful, tannic wine that is going to need a ton of time to come around. Intellectually, the idea of blending fruit from numerous sites is appealing. In reality, I am not sure the blend is better than the best vineyard designates in a great vintage such as 2016, but time will ultimately tell. The Produttori last made a multi-vineyard Riserva in 1990. Needless to say, it will be fascinating to see how this ages”

I believe its from Ovello, Montestefano Montefico, Cotta, San Cristofolo, Basarin and Faset
And the price is not steep compared to grey market 2016 Rabaja

Thanks for the responses. The price seems reasonable for what comprises the blend, but still on the fence. Was only able to find one of the riservas locally, so thought this may be a good way to get my hands on more 2016s.

There’s the 2008 Riserva Anniversario.

Managed to grab 2 bottles. Worth the flier. Why not. Only live once.
