any favorite restaurants? Doesn’t have to be wine focused…I’m thinking mexico/tequila/cerveza.
or great things to do?
thanks

We really like the food at La Choza. It is a small, out of the way local joint that has killer fish and chicken dishes in addition to other items. It’s nothing fancy. Do a Google search and you’ll find online reviews that are quite favorable.
Here are a few suggestions:
For seafood, El Moro at 65 Bis and Benito Juaraz (roughly) take a cab, otherwise you won’t find it or La Perla (for the lionfish) at Calle 12 between Ave. 65 and 70 (again take a cab)
For steaks, Del Sur at Calle 3 and Avenida 5 or Al Pie du Carbon at Calle 6 and Avenida 5.
Also Kinta, Avenida 5 between 4 and 6 and Kondessa on Ave. 5 between 7 and 9 (I think). Sister restaurants on the nicer side.
La Chef for the lobster and bacon sandwich (Ave. 5 and Calle 5).
Ohana on Ave. 5 between 6 and 8 plays reggae and is fun.
There’s a great bakery at Ave. 5 and Calle 4 but I can’t remember the name of it.
There is a new wine store called Europa on Ave. Melgar down by the Mega that has what is by far the best selection on the island, which isn’t saying much.
Even if you are not a diver, I’d go to the Cozumel forum on Scubaboard, Cozumel | ScubaBoard. Coz is mainly a dive and cruise ship destination with the cruise ship people only there during the day. Anyway, it’s a big diver hangout and if you search the forum, you’ll find plenty of threads of restaurants and activities to do while there.
I get down there about three times a year for diving and always stay in town. The further away you get from the water and the square, the more local and better the food will be. You can walk around town on google earth.
Have fun.
thanks for the info, we rented a house about 15min out of town. I’m going to dive for 2-3 days and relax the rest. I will have a rental car.

Have you chosen a dive shop yet?
Drift dive = awesome relaxation
I don’t remember where on the island, but is that downed plane still out there? Makes for a nice easy night dive.
there seems to be a hundred of them, but a friend of mine used Albatross in the past so that is what we are going to go with. I prefer to just dive with my group and the dive master, rather than 20-30 other divers.

Never heard of Albatross. I always go with Aldora. Six pack boats, steel 120 tanks. Typical dive is about 80 minutes of bottom time.
