Many products on the market are designed to keep gnats from entering your wine glass. Curious if one functions better than the others in terms of being easy on/off and resistant to light breezes. Also, I’m curious if folks have purchased covers like these but never use them (so I should keep using my wet paper towel method).
Thanks,
-Jim-
Gnat meant for this usage, but I would clean-wash lightweight coasters.
Do you mean fruit flies? I hang a cotton napkin over glasses and decanters to keep them out.

If you drink Loire Cab Franc you have to fend off horse flies

I just set my cellphone in top of my glass. It didn’t occur to me that there’s a special wine gadget for this purpose.

at least it’s a pretty full glass.
Did you get the 5X5 or 6X6?
I got the 6x6 but I think the 5x5 would be fine for most glasses.

I also use Bevhats with my Zalto bordeaux glasses when drinking outdoors

If the screen fails, I recommend a butter knife.
It’s what I use.
To rescue them, of course.

We use these. Drink Tops by coverware. Stay in place well and fit most glasses

I use the Riedel Gnat Screens. They come in different sizes & shapes for Burgundy/Bordeaux/Rhone/Chianti/Barolo/etc. It’s crucially important that you have the correct shape Gnat Screen for the wine you’re drinking. Only $60/screen. The mesh is specially calibrated to allow the aromatics of the wine you’re drinking to escape. And they have special models that are effective against wasps & fruit flies.
You can also get screens that plug into a 220 V outlet and zap the gnats mise en place as they alight on the screen. Those are $120/screen. And you can get them with a wiper blade attachment that clears them from the screen so you don’t risk the dead gnat falling into your wine when you remove. And a steal at $30 additional for he wiper blade. Riedel does it all.
