Couple of Domestic Rieslings: 05 Pey-Marin & 07 Esterlina

Late on these notes but these were a couple of wines consumed during our Cambodian inspired feast. These wines accompanied Cambodian Mini Spring Rolls - ground pork, sugar/salt,etc.:

2005 Pey-Marin Riesling “The Shell Mound”, Marin County
This had a nice rich Riesling nose of petrol and tropical fruit. The palate was much racier than the nose suggested…citrus, parmesan rind, grapefruit skin and meyer lemon…really pretty nice…

2007 Esterlina Dry Riesling "Cole Ranch"
This wine exhibited much more peach characteristics, crushed rock and was very crisp…

All in all, both were very lovely expressions of Rieslings. I don’t know the cost but if both were $20 or under they are very fairly priced…

Tony, I am blatantly new to all rieslings…is it a characterstic of domestics that they posses the overt peach profile? Not that it is a bad thing, just that the last one from OR that I had really stood out as peachy.

Not domestic…i think a lot of Rieslings show a peach or apricot fruit in them. I think it can be pronounced in domestic rieslings that don’t show that hardcore slate or minerality than many German versions show…
