I know…it’s a microwave. Still overwhelmed by the choices and all of the features they can have built in now.
I’ll be taking out my mounted microwave to put a range hood above. So just sourcing to see if there’s something that stands out.

The only real difference is inverter (constant power at every power level) or traditional (on/off power levels). Any reasonable microwave will have a rotating plate and lots of silly programming.
Personal preference will be a “Plus 30 (seconds)” button and if it continues to beep after opening the door. The button is easy to determine. The beeping is more difficult to determine.
The various programming options, “thaw chicken”, “popcorn” (see Here's Why You Shouldn't Use Your Microwave's Popcorn Button), meh. For me, one brand of popcorn needs 3 minutes 20 seconds, another brand needs 4 minutes. But both taste lousy compared to stove-top with coconut oil.
Coconut oil, even over ghee?
It’s my understanding that the core microwaving guts are essentially all the same. So, get one with the aesthetics and secondary features you want.
We wanted the smallest good microwave we could find as we only use it for reheating leftovers, defrosting or reheating coffee. That’s really about it. This is what we bought and it works great as long as you don’t have big items:
Just say no. We hardly ever use our. Microwave after getting an Anova Precision Oven.
If you have limited space, this is a great option - fits in a corner, holds a large dinner plate, sensible features, zero trouble in over 5 years …
That’s kind of why I was asking the question, there are so many alternatives now like the anova.
Any issues using it?
I have a panasonic inverter model that is just fine. Compact, efficient and not crazy priced.
It’s a microwave. It works. Doesn’t give back massages, but heats food
It’s big. The steam function is the big draw but you don’t want to place it under cabinets.
