Costco Reds

I’ve snagged a lot of 2014 Daou Cab at a local Costco for under $20. Terrific value.

Cheers!

The Daou Brothers, Daniel and George, as two of the nicest human beings I have come across. They have a huge, ginormous, operation.

The placard for the wine said there was an instant rebate of $7.00. That would make it $26.99, which is also a good price. I usually see the wine selling for around $32.00 at other local shops (K&L, BevMo).

Chris,

Did you pick up any Michigan wine (assuming you were at the Kalamazoo Costco)? I was there a few weeks ago on a visit with my dad (I grew up in the area) and they had some unique Michigan stuff like Grand Traverse Riesling.

Hi Mark, no, I typically do not grab any MI wines at Costco. I do, however, like their selection of local spirits, which are reasonably priced and save me a trip across town to Tiffanys wine

Yeah I think we’re spoiled here in Seattle, the costcos in the Puget Sound area have a wonderful selection and really great prices.

Just a heads up.
Costco in DE just received a couple Cameron Hughes wines.
A very nice Cabernet that has been sold out on the site from the Spring Mountain District. Lot 502
I got two of these in Nov of 2014 when they came in and saved until having one this past Dec 2015.
Very nice. I posted about it in the CLONYC thread and Cameron responded.
As we can’t get wine shipped to DE it’s great that Costco gets CH wines in
The other is a Arroyo Seco Chardonnay Lot 455
The 502 is 19.69 and won’t last long.
They do have 26 cases so if you enjoyed this wine already there is some there now.
The 455 is 9.99

I am decanting one of the 502’s for tonight.
Smells great!

Costco Delaware last week received a shipment of Cameron Hughes wines.
They have the Private Reserve Lot 2012

Oh my!

It’s $75 on the website and a deal and a half at Costco.

$49.99

No tax.

They have a bunch so if you want some of this make the trek.
Tell em Karl sent you.
LOL

So what is the scoop on this wine?
Is it Harlan or Bond??

The guy doing the road show this weekend is a good guy and he told his friend about this wine.
They didn’t have it in VA and this friend of his isn’t hurting for money and bought the 6 set reserve.
He ordered the Lot 2012 Reserve and likes Harlan.

Told the guy that this was Harlan as he has had it and pick him up 4 cases.

Did I see some discussion here that this was maybe Bond and not Harlan?

Either way. The guy drank it and was blown away by it.
I grabbed a couple bottles and after I get over this cold I will open one.

Any ideas on where this Cult Cab 2012 is from?

The Costco also has the Lot 468 Oakville Meritage and 486 chardonnay and 473 Lake County Red Blend.

Best theory on the private reserve Colorado Wine Press: The Curious Case of the Private Reserve

Very interesting.
Thanks for that link.
That was some sleuthing.

Had to be at the Frisco Costco yesterday, they had Chappellet cab for $45.00, not a super deal not bad though.

Someone post if you see this in a Bay Area Costco please, I’ll grab a case

St. Louis Costco just had the 2009, 2010 and 2011 Heitz Cabernet for $38.99 per bottle. I bought a case of each.

Chappellet cab available at WPlano Costco. I grabbed a couple. Only a few bottles left.

Different Costcos will have different selection.

The one closest to me has:
2010 Leoville Las Cases
2004 Margaux
2006 Mouton
2011 Bond set
2012 Bordeaux 1st Growth set (margaux, cheval blanc, lafite, mouton, haut brion, la mission)

They’ve had a 2012 Screaming Eagle, a couple other first and second growths, penfolds grange.

I think it really depends on your area and how well they can move that kind of inventory.

Actually called about the Chappallet. They checked the whole system, only 10 stores in the country have it in limited numbers.

David, there’s probably no room at your Costco with all the first growths and screagles they stock

Just walked in the door with six bottles of 2011 Monsanto CCR for less than $10 each and three 2010 Fontanafredda Serralunga Barolos for less than $20 each. Heard they are reducing wine SKUs and are discounting discontinued items. Several other good deals. Wife gave me the stink eye when my Black Cat purchase showed up yesterday, she doesn’t know about my Once and Future incoming. Had to be conservative…

You called Costco and was able to converse with a human? Impressive. I never even ponder calling them with a substantive inquiry.
