Haven’t seen a thread on this, so figured I’d kick off the discussion. I’ve largely moved away from my Coravin for still wines, preferring to just use an assortment of smaller bottles in the fridge. But this system for sparkling has me intrigued. I’m really getting into champs, but my wife isn’t a big drinker, and for me the bubbles are an important part of the experience. So I find myself limited to times when I might be having most of a bottle myself, or my less exciting selection of 375s.
Thoughts? Anyone on the board get a sneak preview?
I’m not sure of your timeline, but with the right stopper, I find most champagne & assorted sparkling can hold 7 days - 2 weeks, with very minimal loss of co2 or other degradation. I haven’t tested past 2 weeks to be honest.
I like to have a bottle of champagne/ sparkling on the go all the time. Have a glass maybe when making dinner one night, then another a few nights later, etc. Wife doesn’t drink Champagne, so I tend to go through a bottle over 3-4 occasions.
Has to be the right stopper though and left in the fridge in-between. I received this stopper from the importer when I bought a case of assorted Serveaux Champagnes and it is EASILY the most effective stopper I’ve ever used. Tried so many over the years and unlike the rest, this seems to be universal, with a perfect seal. Others I’ve used are good for one bottle, but then not as good a seal on another producers bottle.
Have looked high & low for more of these, but can’t find them anywhere. I’ll be sad when this breaks. Used weekly for the past 18 months.
My timeline matches yours, 3-4 occasions over a 5-10 days. If I could get that kind of performance from a “universal” stopper that would be great…don’t like the idea of having to mix and match. I know there are some older threads on champagne stoppers, I may need to dig into those.
I use the champagne stopper that I purchased from Crate&Barrel for $6 it does a great job. I must say the longest I have left it on a bottle of sparkling has been no more than 5 days, it’s just too easy to finish the bottle.
There’s not a huge difference between a trusty Champagne stopper (which can easily preserve a bottle for a few days at a minimum) and 2 weeks. If this could preserve a bottle for a year? Yeah it’d be fun to have a glass of something special once in a while, I guess … but I can literally always find a reason to drink Champagne … few days is all we need.
Saw this in their email today. I’ve come to really enjoy sparkling more so than still whites so this is tempting but I’m guessing the cost will be prohibitive for my needs. Typically find a bottle with a normal champagne stopped easily lasts 2-3 days which is good enough for me.
I don’t see huge benefits over a stopper. Then again I’m not a huge fan of the original either. It works ok-ish but their claims of no change in wine for years are bonkers. You can clearly taste a difference when a week after using a coravin.
$400!! After already owning a standard Coravin and a Pivot I think I’ll pass.
I don’t see myself really hanging onto Champagne more than a day or two.
The Le Creuset stopper seems to work well in that time frame, for $40 no cartridges just a beast of a stopper…
$5 says I still cave at some point lol. Pretty baller.
Resurrecting this topic as I’m considering a purchase.
For those who have one, how much height do the Stoppers add to a bottle? I only have about 2-2.5 inches of clearance between an opened bottle at the top of my fridge, so space it at a premium. And while they list the dimensions of the Stoppers on the website, it’s unclear how much overlaps the bottle itself.
