Copenhagen Jura Meetup

@LasseK was so kind to invite a few of us over for a night of Jura whites, and what a night it was! I sadly don’t have pictures of the food but Lasse made a fantastic ‘chicken and morels’ that even saw some Macle as the finishing touch. Besides this we had some Comte brought in from Jura and Lasses amazing sourdough bread.

Very strong showing all around.

Rogerie Le Bourg Sud
Beautiful length and fruit. Very ripe lemons and long finish. Super precise and clean. Happy to buy some more.

Les Dolomies Arco 2016
We started the Jura flights with some entry level cuvees that had some age. This savagnin from Dolomies was really pleasant with just enough power to really show its quality and heritage.

Tissot Traminer 2016
This Tissot was a slight bit advanced but not enough to destroy the experience. Just a bit more caramel vibes to the otherwise very distinct Savagnin character. In this flight the Dolomies was better.

Bruno Bienaime Savagnin 2019
Deep smell of ripe green apple. Mouth is creamy and the fruit is obviously very ripe. Strong acidity. Can lay down for long. I think at this point of the night it’s the best showing of savagnin so far.

Philippe Chatillon Le Sage Vagnin
Corked

Francois Rousset Martin La Chaux 2018
Very strong. Lemon, green apples and high acidity. The nose was somewhat more expressive than the Nicolas Jacob

Nicolas Jacob La Haut
Very much in the same vein as the FRM but all together much more composed and ‘bigger’.

Meo Camuzet Clos de Vougeot 2005
First blinder. This was so strong that the table wondered if we should start in Rhone. A bit of bret, deep red fruits, some green notes, chocolate and just layers of power. Without having had this before I’m wondering if it’s only just entering its drinking window? It has two decades ahead of it for sure. Wow. @Claus_Jeppesen called burgundy and a neighbouring commune very confidently

Dujac Clos Saint Denis 2002
Second blinder, but this time unmistakably burgundy. Lemon peel, cinnamon, rosewater. Such an enchanting nose. Wow. Long beautiful sip that’s velvety soft. We all loved it. WOTN

Domaine Labet Les Varrons 2018
Concentrated yellow fruits. Reduction.

Domaine Labet Bardette 2018
Showing similar to the Varrons here, but slightly longer and more composed. Very nice.

Domaine Labet Varrons 2010
Maybe a tiny bit advanced? But it’s difficult to say with the wines from right around the transition time. It was unmistakably Varrons in terms of the yellow fruits and reduction. Fun addition.

Excuse me but from this point the wines effect has started to appear but;

Allante Boulanger MMXVII
Much like Ganevat A/B bottled their 2017 in just one cuvee. And wow what a bottle.
Besides the otherwise obvious jura notes of lemon, oxidation and strong acidity, this cuvee also has a certain sweetness that really made it stand out in this lineup of otherwise very similar wines. White of the night for me.

Ganevat Grand Teppes VV 2016
Deep and fresh fruits. Simply amazing. Caramelised finish notes and otherwise so big. Lovely wine. Strong contender for White of the night.

Ganevat Antides 2015
I maybe expected a bit more power and depth here, but nonetheless a great showing of Savagnin.

At this point I’m just nibbling Comte and sipping Ganevat and life is great.

Houillon Bruyere Chardonnay VV 2015
Clean beautiful nose with a whiff of ginger. Long lemony finish but not overly acidic either. It’s maybe one of the less powerful HBs I’ve had in a while, but nonetheless beautiful.

Ganevat VJ NV
My first Ganevat VJ believe it or not. The thing that struck me the most was the concentration and color. It’s slightly more caramelised than the rest of producers I’ve enjoyed.

Houillon Bruyere Ploussard 2020
Fresh wild strawberry and blood orange. Classic low intervention Jura red. No particular things that stands out.

At this point we should’ve called it the night, but we decided to open a final blinder

Comando G Las Umbrias 2021
Guesses all over the place, but nobody really was able to nail it as far as I remember. Looking at some pictures of the wine in glasses today, I’m starting to wonder if our bottle was perhaps a little off? Cloudy very vibrant dark pink color. The fruit is here there and everywhere with a very clear garnacha minerality below. This deserved maybe a careful consideration earlier in the tasting.

Awesome evening, and only one off bottle!

My favourite whites of the night were:
Labet’s 2018 Varrons,
Ganevat’s 2016 Grandes Teppes,
Boulanger & Allante’s 2017 Mix and
Houillon & Bruyeres Chardonnay VV from 2015.

But overall just a very strong showning. Extra shout out to Nicolas Jacobs 2018 La-Haut which was a bit shy on the nose on the night, but was immensely beautiful when i re-tasted it the day after.

And the Dujac was just great. I rarely drink this stuff, but it was just great. Found the Meo Camuzet rather boring.

The Comando G was not an off bottle as it was fine on day two. But while the nose was pretty nice, I think it is missing concentration when it comes to taste. Way to expensive for what it delivers.

Overall a bit too much wine for six people

Fantastic lineup Lasse. I hate to admit that the Dujac was a kind of relief for my stomach and teeth
