Looking at cooling units for a small wine cabinet, <200 cubic feet. Hard to find reliability ratings on the internet. Is overkill (a more powerful, say up to 300 cu. feet unit) bad? Anyone have knowledge of these units. I am looking at :
Typically with cooling you want the right amount of “power” not too much, because with home A/C too much power means the system runs too infrequently and doesn’t adequately remove moisture.
In a wine cellar, however, removing moisture usually isn’t the problem, so I wouldn’t worry about going a bit oversized.
No recs on the units you’ve suggested, because I went with Paul’s “Mighty Kenmore” approach.
I have an 1800qt for my 240 cf wine closet and it works great. The unit is fairly energy efficient but it’s not very quiet (I don’t know how the sound compares to other cooling units).
Thank you all. I like the idea of the unit not running as often. Bagler, noise level does not really matter so much. C 1800qt sounds like a good option as it is a lot less than the whisperkool and the breezier seems to get slammed in reviews.
My experience is with bigger units. I had 2 Breezeaire units die, one badly. I like the Cellar Pro’s I moved on to. More money, but small compared to the wine they protect.
I’ve been told over capacity is fine and even extends the life of the unit as it doesn’t have to work as hard.
One of mine vents outside, we oversized it to keep up on hot days.
