Comte Senard

Had a look at a few Comte Senard wines yesterday.

2023 Comte Senard Bourgogne-Aligoté: Quite plump and generous. Green apple and lemon flavours. Full and textural. Softish acidity for the variety.

2022 Comte Senard Bourgogne Blanc Ana: White peach, candied peel and some light spice. Something cool and stony lurks beneath ripe fruit flavours. Good depth and chew. Nice wine.

2022 Comte Senard Aloxe-Corton Les Caillettes : This one is all Pinot Gris. It is full and rich, with a high glycerol feel. There are pear and apple aromas and flavours and brown spice notes. Plenty going on here.

2022 Comte Senard Bourgogne Auguste: Plenty of floral spice here and I assume there’s a portion of whole bunch. Perfectly ripe, fleshy berry fruits overlay a stony base.

2022 Comte Senard Aloxe-Corton Jules: Aromas of rose petal, red fruits and flint. Highly perfumed fruits flow through onto the palate. It is creamy through the mid and finishes with mineral precision.

2022 Comte Senard Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru Les Valozières : Meaty reduction greets the nose. Dark of fruit profile. Has some gingerbread. Rich and chewy and is going to need some serious cellar time.

2021 Comte Senard Corton-Clos des Meix, Grand Cru : This one was 100% de-stemmed in ’21. Has a cool feel, with tart red fruits and some menthol. There’s smoked meats and earth too. It has good grip and balance and finishes with plenty of spice.

Thanks for the notes, Jeremy. Not a producer I see very often anymore, but I will always remember an '05 Comte Senard Corton as my first grand cru Burg when I was in college. I think it was about $50 which was quite a splurge for me at the time. I thought it was coarse and very average, but that may have been because it was a 2-3 year old Corton from the 2005 vintage!
