Well…last week it finally happened, Coleman Nicole’s first release.
I am a self admitted Pinot Noir freak and will try / buy from anywhere in the world but two years ago I could take the itch no longer and needed to scratch it. I started Coleman Nicole ( after my kids middle names) armed with 4 tons of 2008 Champlain Creek Pinot Noir. My focus is on 100% Pinot Noir, 100% Single Vineyard wines. These are the wines that have always intrigued me the most so I decided to build something around a passion of mine. It’s been a crazy two years with a ton of help from a so many people I can’t begin to thank them all, a lot of which hang out around these parts.
If you love Pinot and don’t mind following another small lot Pinot producer, please check us out and get on the allocation list.
I haven’t tried it but with Brandon’s Knowledge and passion, I’m positive that these are going to be some top rate wines (at very nice prices to boot!!)
Good going Brandon.
Disclaimer: Brandon is also a huge Dodger fan but that had no bearing on my decision whatsoever…
Our 2008 site (Champlain Creek) sits in the valley on 116 just past Los Arroyos Golf Course, Behind Robledo Family Wines but viewable from certain areas of the Rodgers Creek Vineyard. The block is the same block Patz & Hall has used for in their Sonoma Coast Bottling and is the 777 Clone. The soil is Diablo Clay with 9% to 15% slope, facing East in East / West rows. I’m not exactly sure what the yield on this vineyard is because we didn’t actually get to talk to the grower on this purchase but the fruit came in very clean and we are extremely happy with the flavor.
Our 2009 site (Morris Ranch) is in the Petaluma Gap and is a VERY short crows fly from the Gap’s Crown Vineyard. It sits between two beautiful rolling hills on the West side of Sonoma Mountain and sits about 300 ft high overlooking the town. We have two blocks in this vineyard. One block is Clone 5 and the other is Clone 777. The soil is Diablo Clay with 9% to 15% slope, facing South in East / West rows and is Cane Pruned to yield 3 tons per acre. I love this place and we are sourcing it again for 2010.
We’re currently looking for a vineyard source in the RRV so if anyone knows of anything available please give me a shout!
