no wine in two weeks, but met Tuesday with my small OC group for Coche Corton Charlie night. Food at the Loft in the Montage was ok and we handled our own wines, decent stemware provided.
No formal notes. Not many taste descriptors. Too much fun talking.
00 Dom rosé—very quiet mousse, a calm wine, strawberries and red fruit buttressed by its integrated acidity, a nice quaff.
90 Coche CC—struck match, a little honeyed and past peak from a bottle bought early and stored well. Nose far better than palate, gorgeous nose. By itself, this or the next wine would have been more pleasing.
94 Coche CC—for me virtually the equal of 90. Similar notes, shockingly. All of these CC had the struck match Coche trademark happening.
00 Coche CC—in the middle of the pack till it accelerated at the finish and really opened up. Steely and firm but generous. Great Corton Charlie.
2015 Coche CC—probably the best of these, still a baby but one that can run with and ahead of the pack. Great density and fruit.
2009 Ramonet Montrachet—trademark mint/rosemary and simply beautiful. Powerful but restrained wine, mouthwatering and great with room to run. Very different from Coche, of course, but able to hang easily with the big boys. Probably my favorite of the night, but I have a real soft spot for Ramonet.
Ahhh…so you were there Doc! Saw the pics on IG. Amazing line up…don’t see too many people drinkin/posting the goldies much. Wish I lived closer…could have contributed a 93! Salon next month…I might just have to start house hunting!
Too bad about the 1990. I do think it’s beginning to fray around the edges a bit, unless you get very lucky. I had a bottle in 2019 that had never left Burgundy that was simply spectacular.
