CLOSED Sabelli-Frisch BD16 - Thank you all!

GAME ON! So excited to be here for my 6th BD participation!

This year I have 6, yes SIX, mentally insane offers! Bonkers, lunatic stuff that’s 60-80% off when you include shipping! I’m throwing everything (and the kitchen sink) I currently have available (and some I don’t even) on this year’s offer! But more importantly, this year for the first time ever, I have 2x EXCLUSIVE BD releases as well! :kissing_heart:

I feel your thirst, so let’s dive right into it:

  1. I’m proud to here announce my brand new series PAUL FRISCH CABS! This is a project 3 years in the making and a really cool project, where I wanted to showcase the best Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards across California under its own little brand series and also honor my grandfather, Paul Frisch, who was a huge Bordeaux fan and the one that introduced me to wine. I was going to do the inaugural release this summer for members only, as a pre-release for fall, but I thought what the heck - I might as well do it here for BD! Very small amounts of these wines will be available each year, some only 1 barrel/20 cases, like in the case here. This is a beautiful 2-pack of of the first two offerings, a 2023 Santa Barbara Cabernet from Vogelzang Vineyard and a 2022 San Diego County Cabernet from Cloverwood Vineyard. Heads up - this is a PRE-SALE offer, they will NOT SHIP UNTIL FALL 2025. There’s no discount here, but you get early dibs. Only 20 cases made of one of these, so they will go fast. I’ll talk about them a little bit more in-depth in a post further down.

  2. For my numbered, special edition series Milk Fed, this year, yes, we made a Pinot Noir for Milk Fed 11! This is probably the most AFWE or “natural wine” I’ve made - it’s a super vibrant and electric 100% whole cluster Pinot Noir from Santa Barbara county and the promising YF2 vineyard. High toned, elevated aromatics and electric. Very low sulphur, so this is probably not one for aging, which is why I’m offering it here at a crazy low price - I want it in your hands and in your glasses and not risk it lingering in cold storage! This will ONLY be available for these 2 days, whatever hasn’t sold by then goes to my European distributors and is gone forever.

WHAT’S THE THEME OF THIS YEAR’S OFFER?:

Mainly to introduce the new PAUL FRISCH CABS series and showcase that, which I’m very proud of. Also the AFWE one-off Pinot Noir experiment I did only for BD and members. But like I said - I’m including pretty much every single wine I have available in this offer, so there’s something for everyone! Let’s move it out of my expensive cold storage and into your storage! :+1:

WHAT’S THE SHIPPING COST?

Included if you buy over $250, otherwise just a $10 flat fee for anything below.

WHY ONLY A BUNCH OF 6-PACKS AND NOT A FULL CASE, YOU IMBECILE?

Well, this was my cunning plan - I was hoping that you would buy a few 6-packs, mix and match, enjoy the low shipping by making it into at least a case, maybe more! By having all these 6-packs, I feel you can closer customize to suit your tastes and needs.

I SHIP TO:

I ship to: CA, NY, OR, OH, WA, CO, NV, AZ, TX, DC, FL, IL, PA, NC, MI, MD, VA, OK, NH, MN, CT, GA. AK also possible, but I have to charge you for the shipping as it’s considerably more. I SHIP TO OTHER STATES TOO! You just need to reach out to me in an email (info-at-sabelli-frisch-dot-com) with your order - can send it via 3rd party channel - to bypass the webshop region blocking.

CAN I PICKUP LOCALLY?

Yes, just chose the Local Pickup option at check out if you live in Los Angeles (or don’t mind coming here to get them).

WHEN WILL IT SHIP?:

Mentally and emotionally prepare for the 6-packs to not arrive until beginning of March. It’s just me and the wife packing, so it takes forever. And I probably have to order shipping boxes halfway through and wait for those, because that happens every goddamn year. If you need it faster, reach out to me and I’ll try to fast track it.
If you need to hold it, also reach out to me and I’ll put a hold on it.

Reminder again, the Paul Frisch Cabs is a PRE-SALE, so no matter how many extra “hunnies” ($100’s, not honeys) you slip me, it won’t go out until then. Nice try, you sly little Cab dog, but the labels aren’t even finalized or printed yet!

HOW WILL IT SHIP?

FedEx. Heads up - you might get a tracking number email, but that doesn’t mean it’s shipping. That happens automatically when I print the label - the actual shipping can still be weeks off after that.

CAN I PAY WITHOUT HAVING A PAYPAL ACCOUNT?

Yeah, just email me (info-at-sabelli-frisch-dot-com) and we can send you an invoice via PayPal where you can just use your CC directly without having an account. I can also accept Venmo or a check, if that’s easier. Just email us and we’ll figure it out!

SALES TAXES?

Yes, unfortunately I do have to collect taxes for almost all states on their behalf. It’s very annoying.

DO YOU GUARANTEE THE WINES ARE NOT DAMAGED?

Yes, I will replace any corked, broken or heat damaged wine if I still have it in stock, otherwise refund if I don’t.

ANY LIMITS ON HOW MUCH?

Until I’m sold out.

WHY NO DESCRIPTIONS OF THE WINES HERE?

Most of these are library wines and you can read about them on the forum, on the website or CellarTracker if you want more detailed tasting notes. Don’t want to outstay my welcome with too much text!

I wanted to expand a bit on the new Paul Frisch Cabs and add some descriptions for each wine.

BACKGROUND:
My grandfather Paul was part of the Norwegian resistance during WWII. He fled to neutral Sweden in a kind of daring night dash on foot straight outta some Alistair MacLean novel. In Sweden he got jailed, but upon release eventually helped the allies keep track of German movements etc there. Spy light stuff. Because of that he was asked to come help with the rebuild of Europe as a civilian. He and my grandmother were both stationed in Germany and France in 1946 as teachers. It was here he picked up a serious love for wine that lasted his whole life - he drank wine every day. He became a big Bordeaux lover, never the fancy stuff or keeping a big cellar, but he always had good everyday drinkers. He was my introduction to wine. So this is a homage to him, because he was a top guy.

CABERNET GOALS:
I wanted to make a smaller, reserve series where I could focus on cabernets only. Although I will also release Napa cabs in this series (two vintages are already in barrel), I feel sometimes we forget how much great cabernet is grown outside of Napa in this state. So by focusing on Cabernet only, this is an opportunity to expand that appreciation and go beyond just one place.

The idea was also to have guest winemakers on for certain vintages, but so far, simply due to logistics, I’ve been the winemaker for all the first four vintages. But the goal is to be able to collaborate with great winemakers in the future to do one-off vintages under this series. Stay tuned!

2023 Paul Frisch Cabs Cabernet, Vogelzang Vineyard, Happy Canyon AVA:
This is the more powerful Cab of the two. Vogelzang is a fantastic cooler climate vineyard in the rolling Happy Canyon hills that has produced great fruit for many wineries. It was planted in 1998 and they have always had a big focus on Bordeaux-varieties.

Wine was naturally fermented, 2 barrels made. Split between neutral oak and a new barrel, this is an elegant, refined and powerful Cab. But because of only 50% new oak influence, it retains an elegant lightness. A delicious Cabernet.

2023 Paul Frisch Cabs Cabernet, Cloverwood Vineyard, San Luis Rey AVA:
This was harvested early in 2022 from a very small homestead vineyard in the San Diego County town of Fallbrook. It’s a hotter area, so I wanted to counter that by harvesting this pretty early and not let it get overripe, so this is certainly the lighter of the two Cabs in the series. About 60% new oak. I only made one barrel of this, but took it off the new oak barrel by moving it into neutral when I thought it had reached the right balance.

Interestingly, when I harvested this, it was just in the San Diego County classification area, but since then, the vineyard now falls into the region of the newest AVA in America (it was approved fall of 2024), so say hello to San Luis Rey AVA!

Both these wines will do well with a little decant, and certainly both have legs for aging.

Design is still getting tweaked on label, so might change slightly.

And you wax haters? Look, no wax!

I also wanted to expand on the Milk Fed Pinot Noir release a bit.

BACKGROUND:
I had never planned to make Pinot Noir. I love the grape, it’s one of my absolute favorites, but also quickly realized that there are so many great producers in the US making amazing PN’s - do we really need another one? Well, for a moment in 2022 I thought perhaps yes!

You see, a fellow winemaker reached out to me and asked me if I wanted to take over one of his contracts for PN in Santa Barbara. He had had enough of the business and wanted out. I said I wasn’t really in the PN game, but this inevitably lead to a conversation of me perhaps taking over his brand, which was mainly Burgundy varieties from SBC. He’d made great wines under that brand.

We came to a deal, I signed a few contracts for PN in anticipation and some great vineyards and growers got lined up. But then 2023 hit, slumps in sales etc and I had one of those come-to-jesus moments one day - do I really want to put focus and energy on another brand when I cane barely keep up with my own brand? I backed out of taking over his winery, but by then I’d already signed the contract for the YF2 Vineyard and the wonderful PN there. So that’s why this has ended up as one of my special edition Milk Fed wines.

Never say never, but I think it will be a long time before I get into the PN game again, despite how much I like the wine I made. I’ll try to stay more focused on my heritage CA varieties instead.

In for the Pinot 6-pack and Mission 6-pack. I might have too much work to follow BD16 throughout, but I definitely had to get this one in the books.

Thanks for the killer offer.
