SEE YOU NEXT YEAR

We own a vineyard, Lia’s Vineyard, in the fabulous Chehalem Mountains AVA. We sell most of our fruit to some of Oregon’s top wineries (even if you’ve never had Longplay Wine, you might have enjoyed our fruit in vineyard designates and wines from Patricia Green Cellars, J. Christopher, Gypsy Dancer Estate, Grochau Cellars, Dundee Wine Library, Biggio-Hamina, Bergstrom, Penner-Ash, White Rose Estate and others). We keep a bit of fruit for ourselves and produce about 1,200 cases per year with minimal intervention in small lots that highlight the unique character of our site.
We named our wine “Longplay” because we say wine is like music: There are many genres and styles, and “best” is more a question of taste than absolutes. We practice old-school winemaking: Analog wine for a digital world. No overdubbing, no remixing.
This is our eighth BerserkerDay! Looking forward to sharing wine with regular customers and new buyers this year! In the spirit of BerserkerDay we’re offering some excellent deals on some excellent wines. Some of the deals are listed below. Limited quantity, limited time, dollar shipping on six or more bottles. (You can do it!)
I’ve said my best customers are wine nerds, so it’s become a BD tradition for us to offer some “nerdical” packs but first let’s talk about the …
BerserkerDay Deals
We’ve got some wine for you at a special price. Mix and match. Add a nerdical pack (or not). Oh, and $1 shipping on six or more total bottles. Less than six bottles, you pay shipping. Sorry, but if you can’t drink six bottles of my delicious wines I’m not going to eat the shipping charges. No coupon code necessary - I just don’t have time for all the coding needed to create coupons.
Deal Number 1 - A delicious pinot noir for under $__
Okay, 2020 was a tricky year. There was Covid, of course, but we had some wildfires in Oregon and I was worried about the taint. I named this wine Explicit Lyrics because I might’ve used some strong language in the days leading up to harvest. The back label contains the motto of the vintage - “Hope is the Enemy.” We didn’t do a lot to this wine - we added some untoasted oak chips to the fermenter as soon as it was full of fruit and then we cross-flow filtered the wine when it came time to bottle. I don’t know if these modest interventions worked miracles, if my vineyard just didn’t get that smoky, or if everybody is just being nice to me, but people are buying this wine and loving it. Michael Alberty, of the Oregonian, wrote some nice words about it. We put it under screwcap to keep it fresh. I’ve sold thousands of bottles with a $24 retail price, but for my Berserker friends we are offering this one-of-a-kind wine for $___. Order a full case of this wine and we’ll toss an Explicit Lyrics t-shirt in the box. (Tell me your size M-XL in the “gift note” section of the online order form.)
Explicit Lyrics Pinot Noir. Retail value $24/bottle, yours for $___ on BerserkerDay. Visit our shop to buy this wine.
Deal Number 2 - A truly delicious pinot noir for under $__
We love how our 2015 Lia’s Vineyard pinot noir has blossomed into a real beauty. Elegant yet voluptuous, with nice floral notes and a silky texture this wine is drinking at or close to its peak for many pinot lovers, so buy it and enjoy!
2015 Lia’s Vineyard Pinot Noir. Retail value an already reasonable $32/bottle, yours for $___ only on BerserkerDay. Visit our shop to buy this wine.
Deal Number 3 - Yet another very delicious pinot noir for under $__
If 2015 is pretty and floral, 2016 is rich and brambly with darker fruit, a hint of grip, and and bit deeper color. This wine drinks well now but probably will continue to deliver for the next few years. Stock up and save!
2016 Lia’s Vineyard Pinot Noir. Retail value a very reasonable $32/bottle, yours for $__ on BerserkerDay. Visit our shop to buy this wine.
Now for the Nerdicals …
Lia’s Vineyard Pinot Nerdical
Our Lia’s Vineyard bottling is the whole vineyard (some years eight different clones) and always punches above its weight. Typically about 10-15 percent new oak and zero to 20 percent whole cluster. It is a nice example of Oregon pinot noir at a great price. 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021 in the six pack.
Six bottles. Total retail value of $192 at our regular, reasonable prices, only $____ for Berserkers on BerserkerDay. We’re talking less than $__/bottle for some amazing wines. Visit our shop to buy this wine.
Hi-Tone Pinot Nerdical
We make a wine called Hi-Tone. The fruit in these bottles is 100 percent Wadenswil from vines planted in 1990. These are consistently some of my favorite barrels of the vintage. It is called Hi-Tone because of the floral notes on the wine. It has an extra long finish and a lovely texture. 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 in the four pack.
Four bottles. Total retail value of $208 at our regular, reasonable prices, only $___ for Berserkers today. Visit our shop to buy this wine.
Whole Cluster Nerdical
We like to pile a fermenter high with whole cluster fruit and then stand back and watch it ferment. Then we sometimes add a barrel from a destemmed lot when it comes time to bottle just to add a bit of flesh to the wine. Sometimes we keep it 100 percent whole-cluster. This wine has that fresh whole cluster nose and wonderful texture. These are food friendly and made for wine nerds. 2017, 2018, 2019 and a very young 2021 in the pack.
Four bottles. Total retail value of $208 at our regular, reasonable prices, only $____. Visit our shop to buy this wine.
Jory Slope Chardonerdical
I grow a small amount of own-rooted Wente Chardonnay planted in 1991. Some vintages I get less than 2 barrels. This doesn’t really see distribution. And I’ll confess that I hold a good amount of it back for personal consumption. But I’ll share some of it with you … because BerserkerDay! Fermented slowly in neutral oak barrels, our Chardonnay has been described as a “hippo in a tutu” - full bodied, yet light on its feet. Quantities are limited.
We’ve got a four pack with vintages 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019 and a six pack with vintages 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020.
A retail value of $140 for the four pack and $210 for the six pack, yours for only $____ and $____ respectively. Visit our shop to buy this wine.
** SOLD OUT — Finally, a case pack from 2013**
2020 wasn’t an easy vintage, but neither was 2013. Torrential rains at the start of harvest meant (depending on your site) you likely either picked too early or waited out the rains and the fruit was diluted as it took on water. We did a bit of both and the result is an elegant wine that is still tasty more than eight years after going to bottle. This case is six bottles each of our Lia’s Vineyard and Jory Bench Reserve pinot noir. Both wines scored better than 90 points from major critics. You may have enjoyed the Lia’s on the tasting menu at Eric Ripert’s restaurant “Blue” at the Ritz Carlton, Cayman Islands. One complicating factor is we had some bad corks in the batch for the 2013s. The incidence of corked bottles is a bit higher, but not to where I’m throwing these bottles away. If you get a corked bottle, just let me know and we’ll try to work something out. Note that beginning with the 2015 vintage, I’ve used either ICON certified corks or other stoppers that have almost no risk of TCA (e.g., Diam, C3). This wine is popular with a handful of Berserkers. I’ve made more follow-on reorder sales than single case sales of this wine. Just a few cases remain for the brave few. This might be the year we sell out.
