CLOSED - Fried Pickles & Pinot Noir Blanc (wait what?) 6 Pack @ $99 -- Plus Lovingly Farmed Pinot from Cortell Collection

Cortell Collection wines is a newbie in this Berserker 16 Wine Thing!

I am beyond excited to participate! While I am new to wine, I am not new to vineyards as I got my first experience in vineyards in the early 1990’s. In 2006, I completed my Ph.D at Oregon State where I investigated spatial variability in the soil, vine vigor and how differences in vine vigor impact fruit and wine chemistry. My focus was on tannins and mouthfeel.

In 2010, I founded Vitis Terra Vineyard Services (VTVS) which provided vineyard development and management services.

I am proud to count Vincent, Sun Break, and Hundred Suns as clients. (Hi @Vincent_Fritzsche , @David_Patte , and @grant_coulter !)

VTVS are the behind-the-scenes team who grew the grapes for the Antikythera Antica Terra wines for the last 15 years, and grapes from my personal vineyard Carlile’s Crest have also been part of their blends for many years. If you know anything about Antica Terra, they are all about the blends and don’t do vineyard designates. EXCEPT, they let me create a Pinot Noir blend and a Chardonnay blend from Carlile’s Crest (only 10 cases of each). These wines will be under the E Feme Real label. We donated one pair of these 2022 wines for the BD 16 auction and we are also going to raffle off another set to someone who purchases our wine during BD 16! Buy some great wine and have a chance to WIN!

My VTVS team has managed Seven Springs / Evening Land since 2014, so my 2022 Chardonnay is mostly from grapes grown there. All my wines are from vineyards we own, lease or manage. Being hands-on in the grape growing and collaborating with top winemakers leads to some great wines to share with you!

My goal is to make lively vibrant wines that express the vineyards they come from, with a focus on a nice balance between acidity and mouthfeel. All of these wines are from the Eola-Amity AVA in the Willamette Valley except for the Willamette Valley Pinot Noir which is truly sourced from all over the valley.

Offer 2 – SVD Pinot – 2021 Carlile’s Crest | 3 Pack OR 6 Pack

Named after my beloved pooch, Carlile. This wine usually goes to Antica Terra but I squirreled away some for myself. (Shh.) This wine is so frickin’ tasty and it is expensive, retailing at $85. Sometimes you gotta say “What the heck” so I’m making a limited deal on this for BD16.

“Daily Drinker” is such a misnomer GOSH! These are not “set it and forget it” wines. They have nice depth of character and represent what Oregon can do at all price levels.

Offer 6 - 2023 Gamay Noir Eola Amity Hills AVA (6 Pack Only)

Oregon is making some sneaky good Gamay. Some are a little Morgon, some are a little Fleurie, and some are a little glou glou tbh. But they’re all pretty easy on the bubble gum. My Eola Amity Hills Gamay Noir is peppery, cranberry-rhubarb-ish (depending on the food), and minerals in the mouth. Good texture to boot.

Offer 7 - Pinot Noir Blanc Blowout - 6 Pack Super Deal

Pinot Noir Blanc??? Yes indeedy doody. I have wanted to make this wine since I was in my 20s…and I finally got my chance in 2020 thanks to the forest fires. The 2020 Pinot Noir Blanc is fine; we picked early and got the grapes inside. Things happened, and yada yada yada it spent about 2 years in the barrel. People liked it so I decided to make a little more.

The 2023 is just a bit riper due to less time in barrel; it has more floral notes and is more fruit forward. Both wines are made with the 114 clone. I tried 115, but the 114 is just better for this little experiment. It gives a hint of Sauv Blanc.

Almond extract, peach, nectarine. Pairs with Fried Pickles.

** :fire: GO BERSERK :fire:** and try it!

SHIPPING

Shipping is hell. Flat rate shipping is slightly more palatable.

Flat rate of $25 for up to 12 bottles.

Between VinoShipper and the Newberg Mail Room, I can ship to most of the Continental USA. The usual suspects do not apply - sorry Mississippi and Utah and I think 1 or 2 other states.

Remember to use this Handy Dandy Order Form, and Happy Berserkering!

Even More About The Cortell Collection Wines

Wines

2022 Chardonnay, Eola-Amity Hills AVA
95 Points, International Wine Report

The 2022 Chardonnay is from the Eola-Amity Hills AVA, which continues to gain recognition for its amazing Chardonnay. This Chardonnay is mostly from the Seven Springs South Blocks as we call them. Evening Land in addition to making lovely wines they also sell grapes from the South Blocks to Antica Terra, 00 Wines, Cristom and Audeant. These vines are around 10 years old and planted at 6 X 4 spacing on volcanic soils. The clone in this wine was mostly 96 with a little 76 and 95 mixed in. The whole clusters were gently crushed and spent a bit of time on the skins before being pressed and fermented in neutral barrels plus one new Damy puncheon to give it a nice mouthfeel and length nuanced with elegant oak. This is not a super oaky or buttery Chardonnay though!

The wine has an aroma and taste of flint, lemon curd, key lime, citrus, stonefruit, apples and pears. Dances around in your mouth with layers and texture. A structured wine with a nice mouthfeel and long finish.

2021 Carlile’s Crest Pinot noir, Eola-Amity Hills AVA
95 Points, International Wine Report, 92 James Suckling

I bought this property in 2008 as it had this sense of peacefulness and calm even though it faces west directly into the Van Duzer Corridor which is the low point in the Coast range. This allows for cool air to flow into the Willamette Valley from the coast. The site is from 650 to 800 feet and is at the transition zone going from volcanic soil on the east to ancient ocean uplifted sedimentary on the west.

The site is managed using Organic Regenerative Agriculture practices. No cultivation has been done since around 2016 and under vine grazing is done with Kune Kune pigs. The site supports diversity with majestic Oregon oaks that support multiple birds and other species. While the grapes typically go into Antica Terra blends, in 2021, we kept the two upper most blocks for this wine. The grapes were harvested at night and several bins containing very small Dijon 115 clusters with tiny berries were labeled for laying in as whole clusters. The rest of the blend is Dijon 777.

The wine has pure Pinot aroma of violets and berries and a nice spicy structure to the wine alongside bright red and blue fruit tones.Fine-grained tannins aid the long-lasting finish alongside perfect levels of acidity

2022 Cortell Rose Vineyard Pinot noir ,Eola-Amity Hills AVA
94 Points, International Wine Report

The Cortell Rose Vineyard has an east aspect ranging from 500 to 750 feet in elevation with a gorgeous view of Mount Hood and the Cascades. The vineyard is on volcanic soil ranging from shallow to deep. With the Pommard clone being prominent, it also contains seven other Pinot noir clones. David at Sun Break sources grapes from all the clones for his wine and Vincent is playing his hand with the Pommard.

For the 2022 Pinot noir, I had the crew run to 4 different blocks of Pinot and everyone picked two buckets to help fill a ¼ ton bin. These clones were fermented in one fermenter. The wine is fresh with flavors of strawberries, mountain blueberries, crushed red roses, and fresh sage, with shades of toasted baking spice. Very fruit-forward on the finish with perfect levels of acidity and fine-grained tannins. If you like”pretty”, this is your wine!

2022 Black Bobcat Pinot noir,Eola-Amity Hills AVA
93 Points, International Wine Report

The Black Bobcat Vineyard is a 1 acre vineyard planted on the corner of a tight hairpin turn going up the Eola Hills Road from Amity. It is around 300 feet elevation, west facing on shallow rocky volcanic soil. The combination of the hotter site and rocks leading to some drought stress lead to a distinctive wine. The vineyard was planted by former Chemeketa CC students of mine who then sold it to a retired movie star. I got a text asking if I would manage it and I said “Yes in exchange for the grapes!” The Pinot noir clones are Wadenswil, 667 and 114. The wine got the Black Bobcat name because one evening I stopped by to check on the vines and I saw a large black cat at the end of a row….I ran down to get a closer look and snapped a photo. I was not sure if it was a young cougar or what it was. Later, we decided it looked like a rare black colored Bobcat. These have only been seen 10-15 times in the US. Later we caught it in a video. Since the vineyard will always produce a limited amount of wine and it has a spicy cola taste with more tannin structure, we thought the name fit. The top color on the label is midnight blue to represent the character of the wine. If you like big and bold, this one could be your style!

Described by the International Wine Report as Candied black cherries, black raspberries, scraped vanilla bean, dried earth, and toasted cinnamon stick aromas jump from the glass alongside shades of cedary herbs and allspice on the palate. It has a lovely spice-driven finish with sweet, smooth tannins and mouthwatering acidity.
