About Flâneur Wines:

At Flâneur Wines, we consider ourselves to be flâneurs at our core, passionate artisans joined together by the desire to slow down, observe the world, and create delicious wines. We lead with world-class hospitality and pair it with beautifully refined Willamette Valley wines.

Established in 2013 we’ve assembled a world-class team for each stage of the process—farming, winemaking, hospitality—each part of equal importance. Our Winemaker Grant Coulter, is both consciously technical and spontaneously whimsical crafting wines that are natively fermented with diverse use of barrels and a range of whole-cluster inclusion. Prior to joining us, Grant spent nine years as the award-winning winemaker for Beaux Frères Winery.

Our portfolio is comprised 100% from our two estates, both organically dry farmed, in house by our dedicated Vineyard Manager, Jaime Cantu, who has been farming in the Willamette Valley for 30 plus years. Although only a couple miles apart, as the crow flies, they could not be more contrasting in terroir lending to a truly complementary portfolio of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier, Aligoté, and Grüner Veltliner.

La Belle Promenade Vineyard, Chehalem Mountains AVA

In 2014 we planted our 40 acre La Belle Promenade Vineyard atop the Chehalem Mountains AVA. Sitting between 700’-820’ in elevation in rocky basalt based volcanic soils, La Belle Promenade tells a story of the blue and black fruits that once grew on the land. It creates wines that are plush, with floral notes that cling to acidity and sing of the bright, high tones that ripple through the Chehalem Mountains.

Flânerie Vineyard, Ribbon Ridge AVA

Our Flânerie Vineyard in the neighboring Ribbon Ridge AVA turned 20 this passed year. Flânerie is a 10 acre site planted lower in elevation between 250’-350. Its warmer micro-climate paired with sedimentary soils creates a spicy dark red fruit character for savory wines that are bold, rustic and extremely age-worthy.

Offer #4: (4-Bottles) – German Spätburgunder Collaboration with Weingut Friedrich Becker

TODAY’S PRICE (SHIPPING INCLUDED): $235 | (RETAIL: $300)

In 2020 we made the decision to forgo Pinot Noir production due to wildfires, leaving us with some holes in our portfolio. We harnessed our flâneuring spirit and partnered with friend and highly decorated 2nd generation Winemaker, Fritz Becker of Weingut Friedrich Becker in the Pfalz region of Germany to collaboratively craft two club exclusive Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir).

The Process:

  • We sent Becker verticals of La Belle Promenade Pinot Noir and Flânerie Pinot Noir for Fritz to familiarize himself with Grant’s Winemaking style and our estate terroir.
  • In return, Becker sent Flâneur numerous samples of barrel composites as options for assembling the final blends, Flânieren and Spazieren Pinot Noir.
  • Flâneur’s Winemaking team, Grant and Anthony, as well as Owner, Marty, sat down for a long blending session to craft the wines. The final blends were then communicated to Becker to assemble back in Germany.
  • Julie Doerschlag, Marty’s wife and talented artist behind the Flâneur label designs, created a new Flâneur label that would be used for this collaboration. She incorporated the Fox from the Becker label with the Flâneur to represent the collaboration.
  • Visit our micro-site to learn more about the collaboration HERE.

I was one of the Newbie tasters for Flaneur. Amelia was kind enough to send over 3 of their wines. I opened them up with fellow Berserker @AlbertK and some non-Berserker friends. All wines were a hit. Below are my tasting notes and Albert’s

My notes:

2019 Flaneur Extra Brut Chahalem Mountains
Vibrant and giving nose with green apple, lime zest, honeysuckle. On the palate, energetic and with good richness and a long finish. Great to see more Oregon sparkling come on to the market. Seems like the fruit there is very conducive to it. This needs a year or two to better integrate in bottle, but should drink well for years to come

ABV: 12%
Closure: synthetic cork
Stem: Grassl Liberte
Decant: N/A
Extra info: 47% Pinoit Noir, 28% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Meunier all from La Belle Promenade Vineyard located atop the Chehalem Mountains between 700 and 800 feet elevation with northeastern and southwestern exposures. Dry farmed using organic principles. pH:307; TA 8.9 g/l; Dosage 5 g/l, 3.5 years aged en tirage. Disgorged June 2023. 399 cases made

2021 Flaneur Chardonnay La Belle Promenade Vineyard
A touch of zesty reduction on the nose at first. Meyer lemon, mandarin oil, white flowers, pastry dough. Ample and giving on the palate, with great density and racy acids. My favourite of the trio tasted. If you’re a fan of richer, more classically styled Chardonnays that retain their lift and energy this might be for you. Drinking really well now, but I think the real magic might come when these are given some proper age to them.

ABV: 12.4%
Closure: synthetic cork
Stem: Grassl Liberte
Decant: N/A
Extra info: from a relatively new vineyard planted in 2014. 16% new oak, whole cluster pressed and native yeast fermented. pH 3.22; TA 6.9 g/l. 617 cases made.

2019 Flaneur Pinot Noir Cuvée Constantin
Ripe, bright red fruits on the nose. Candied cherry, raspberries alongside some violets and roses. Fairly light in colour. On palate, medium acid and light bodied. Very approachable and enjoyable pinot.

ABV: 13.2%
Closure: synthetic cork
Stem: Grassl Liberte
Decant: 1h
Extra info: Bottled August 2020, 656 cases, pH 3.76, TA 5.0, Native Yeast Fermentation, 17% New French Oak, 21% Whole Cluster, 100% Pinot Noir, 68% from La Belle Promenade Vineyard & 32% from Flanerie Vineyard.

Albert’s notes

2019 Flaneur Extra Brut Chahalem Mountains
Vibrant and giving nose with green apple, lime zest, honeysuckle. On the palate, energetic and with good richness and a long finish.

2021 Flaneur Chardonnay La Belle Promenade Vineyard
Pale lemon with notes of flint, citrus, and well-integrated oak. Ample and giving on the palate, with orchard fruits and well balanced acidity.

2019 Flaneur Pinot Noir Cuvée Constantin
Light in color. Juicy red fruits , medium acid and mellow tannins.

Our Pinot Meunier is one of our favorites. Here’s what Wine Enthusiast has to say: 92 Points, “This Pinot Meunier sees 100% whole cluster fermentation and partial carbonic maceration. Violets and sweet freesia provide a floral perfume, followed by aromas of blackberry kombucha and coriander. The wine drinks like any icy grape popsicle, with bits of wild strawberries and olive oil. A lithe and lean texture, with blazing acidity.”

Just like Rodrigo, I was one of the Newbie tasters that was given the opportunity to taste three Flaneur wines. Thanks to Amelia and the winery for the opportunity. I opened them up with a group of tasters in Fort Worth that meet fairly regularly, and have good, broad based experience.

Everyone liked the wines. Seriously. Everyone. The Pinot Noir was probably the favorite - it came across as classically styled, but with enough depth and fruit to maintain everyone’s interest over the two hours that it was open. Excellent.

The Chardonnay was a close second, which was surprising because after the first taste, everyone looked and me and gave a nodding smile and a “wow, this is really good.” I’m not a much of a chard drinker, so my approval probably doesn’t carry much weight. But, folks who drink a lot of high end Chard - French and domestic - all said they would happily buy more.

The sparkler was excellent as well, and generated discussion about who is making the best domestic sparkler, and why more people aren’t making (or, rather selling in Texas) sparkling wine from the Willamette Valley.

I wholeheartedly endorse the Flaneur wines, and am thankful to have had a sneak peak before BD15.

Order in!

I first encountered these wines last year and, aside from the wines @Rodrigo_B noted, I enjoyed the La Belle Promenade Pinot Noir. Rather dark fruited with good acidity, I found it quite structured, in fact likely showing best with five more years in my opinion. I’m excited to try the vertical.

Check out our German Collaboration wines. This is a project born in 2020 after wildfires in the area led us to forego producing Pinot Noir. We partnered with Fritz Becker of Weingut Friedrich Becker in the Pfalz region of Germany. The result is two proprietary blends of exquisite Pinot Noir that has long cellaring potential. They are two of my favorites from our portfolio.

My favorite offer that we have available is the German Collaboration pack we did with Weingut Fredrich Becker. These wines are super limited and have such an incredible story (and palate). These wines are definite cellar champions!

Glad you like LBP! it’s an amazing site, high up and very rocky with lots of wind. The skins can get thick and really makes a blockbuster wine.

La Belle Promenade Pinot Noir is always a favorite in the tasting room! Fruit forward with great structural elements. The '19 drinks well now and can age for years. Check out the La Belle Promenade Vertical to see how this site produces great wine year after year. :grinning:

Sandy, Anthony and I are enjoying a bottle right now of the 2019 Cuvee Constantin Pinot Noir.

Showing great balance of red fruit and fresh earth. This flagship bottle has incredible texture and smooth leathery notes.

Lately I have been pairing it with funky cheeses like Patte D’Ours or Trillium triple cream with crusty fresh bread.
