This is my first attempt at posting notes. I don’t write poetic incisive comments like other folks but the data points are useful and I figure it’s time to (attempt to) give back. About time i register at cellartracker i guess.
'90 Trimbach Clos Ste Hune, fourth bottle from a six-pack, unlike the others this had started leaking since I tried last 5-6 years ago, still less than an inch ullage, but lowered expectations. Previous bottle was everything I wanted from Alsace riesling, but this one was good only. Advanced color, no off aromas, just reduced intensity, slightly fading, still enjoyable. Bottles like this, drink up, but judgement reserved.
'93 Jadot Gevrey Clos St Jacques, finally a Jadot CSJ from the 90s other than the '90 that was ready to drink. Slow-oxed 4 hours. Color shows no sign of age. Medium+ intensity, tannins fully resolved, balanced acid and fruit, surprisingly clean, nose should still develop with age but very good. 92 points, more if the aromas continue to develop.
'07 Clos du Mont Olivet Cuvee Papet, chosen for one of my dinner companions who likes big young wines, good but simple following the older Burg, ripe but surprisingly balanced for '07, a pleasant touch of old-viney grenache volatility, showed nothing when opened but approachable even laid back with the slow-ox, much better choice than Burgundy with venison loin in sweet/rich currant-Madeira reduction. 91 points last night, plenty of upside potential.
