Clos du Marquis and Les Griffons de Pichon Baron 2016

Thanks Chris - I didn’t want to labour the point. Coates still described it as the second wine as late as 2004. Parker said it was “the precursor of the Bordeaux second wines” in his 2003 book, but he also confirmed that it had started emerging from “well-defined terroirs situated outside the Grand Clos”. I imagine that for a long time, which fruit went into CDM depended anyway on the vintage, just like it does elsewhere. Of course LLC must be more than happy to confirm today that CDM has always been a separate wine.
One detail for geeks - the mention “Grand Vin”, which you can see on Robert and Scott’s photos, dates from the 2015 vintage.
