I really like the Mazy from rousseau. Everytime I’ve had it I’ve been really impressed. Wish I could try one with more than 15 years of age on it, no one seems to keep them around.
Very good question. I love the 1999’s. I do think that 2005 is a vintage perhaps on it’s own in the last couple of decades, and evaluating at age 10 is a bit unfair, although I appreciate that someone is doing it (although in clive’s own way). (2010 may be a rival).
I was interested that although a couple of whites were “advanced” that there were not more frankly oxidized whites. Did he exclude these?
OK, Charlie…let me know when you’re in the Philadelhia area and you might get your “wish”. One of my very favorite Burgundy wines in almost any vintage…from Rousseau. And, the underrated member of the stable.
FWIW, a tasting note on the 1993 from 10 days ago at the terrific Philadelphia restaurant, Zahav.
Rousseau Mazy-Chambertin 1993:
6_/15: Opened, cleaned [ brown paper filter] ; seemed really vibrant and beautiful, but started to shut down. Aerated for 4 hours or so.and then put back in bottle. [ x] guessed Gevrey…butr…thought younger than it was…98, 99most aromatics,e tc. are secondary…with good fruit aromatics, too…great lenghth…and excellent concentration. Smooth as silk.
Next am had a sl. saline quality to it, really nice cherry cough drop on palate; long finish of velvety fruit. Really classy stuff…red fruits. Good body, though no noticeable tannins. Finish doesn’t quit.
Terrific wine. 2018 on for this wine, though. Give it a full 25 to show how good it is._
