Clam Chowder and Sardines with old CalChard

Last night for dinner, after a good six-bottle tasting at Susan’s, was Progresso Clam Chowder with an added cup of clam juice and half & half and a tin of Bar Harbor Chopped Clams. The clam chowder was enjoyed with our last tin of small Galician sardines in olive oil from Gourmet Delights. They are canned by Veleta and are quite wonderful. Carollee had them on crackers while I had them on a Foccaccia roll. We enjoyed the soup and sardines with a 1987 Grgich Hills Napa Valley Chardonnay - fill a half inch below the capsule, cork nearly completely saturated; coior a medium orange-gold, no oxidation, very good secondary and tertiary fruit and barely adequate acidity; with a nice medium-long developed fruit finish.

Then for dessert we shared a half a Pink Lady apple, sliced, with a glass of Banfi Grappa di Montalcino each.

Hey Dick,
When you open that wine with more than adequate acidity let me know would ya?!
