Chicken & Wild Rice Soup and Sardines with an Old Mirassou CalChardonnay

Last night for dinner we had Progresso Chicken & Wild Rice Soup, enhanced with a tin of white and dark meat chicken and the juice from the chicken with enough chicken broth to make a cup. We also had Veleta Sardines in Olive OIl with the soup. I had a slice of Rosemary-Olive Oil bread, while Carollee had her usual crackers. We had eight sardines each on buttered bread and crackers. Wine enjoyed with the soup and sardines was a 1982 Mirassou Chardonnay from San Luis Obispo County - fill an inch below the capsule, cork saturated about a hlf inch; color a medium orange-gold, deepening to a dark orange-brown with time in the glass, nice flavors of spicy secondary and tertiary white and yellow fruit with only a little oxidation, barely adeqautate acidity; with a nice medium-long spicy, developed fruit finish. Dessert was two Pepperidge Farm Bordeaux cookies, with some pieces from the bottom of the package, with our after dinner waters.

I always remind myself that the pieces on the bottom of the bag don’t have calories. Learned that from you. [cheers.gif]

lucky that there was an even number of sardines so you could each have 8. Do you always count them?
