Headed to Chicago for a few nights next week. Staying at the Westin on Michigan Ave. where are the best wine shops or wine bars around there? Walking proximity would be ideal
Used to go to Chicago for work and I enjoyed 1-2 meals/drinks at the Purple Pig: https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5a559bda0abd0444cba4a056/t/69d68c077c98251857e7cbd7/1775668231032/The+Purple+Pig+Wine+List+2026+(6).pdf
+1 on Purple Pig, as someone who lives here + your ask of something within walking distance. If you’re open to a short uber, Printers Row Wine Shop is nice, or Pops for Champagne.
Binny’s is going to be your best bet for a comprehensive wine shop. Warehouse Liquors or Superior Wine & Liquor is also good.
Also +1 for Purple Pig.
I’ll echo Purple Pig as well for that area. I personally haven’t been in a while but recommended it to my family visiting from Italy a couple weeks ago and they loved it.
Pops has a pretty great bottle list, fwiw
While not wine shops strictly, Binny’s is probably the largest distributor in the State, and there’s an Eataly downtown.
What about authentic Italian recommendations for downtown Chicago or close by?
I’ve really been a fan of Vinci, was introduced to it by the Chicago wbers, it’s in Lincoln park across from Alinea.
Piccolo Sogno has always been a favorite. La Scarola is nearby and is super classic Italian-American red sauce type food
I believe Vinci also has no corkage on bottles with at least 10 years of age
Viaggio in West Loop is solid, classic Italian. Also Italian Village has a reserve wine list with some cool bottles of Italian wine, but I’ve heard the food is not great.
This
And head down Grand for a sub at Bari.
Piccolo Sogno
Monteverde, Sapori, and Osteria Langhe are some of my favorites for Italian. Vinci, as @MChang mentioned, is solid and has arguably the best corkage policy in the city.
PSA: Google has listed Vinci as permanently closed. A comment mentioned that the owner passed away. Not sure if the closure is truly permanent or they are taking a breath. Website has shut down.
That’s unfortunate, place was great
