Is there anything I should be aware of? I’ll be in Chicago this weekend (valentines day weekend). Will taxi’s take forever and just stick to the trains?
Also any activities we should do while we are there for the weekend? We have food covered, but everything in between we don’t. We’re staying at the Hilton Chicago at the Loop.
Art Institute, catch a matinee at one of the many “broadway” type theatres, take a stroll along Mag Mile…
If it snows, it will just take a little longer to catch a taxi as fewer people will walk, but you will be downtown, so it shouldn’t be much of an issue…
I figure you will wake up at 8…get dressed, have some coffee, get going…that makes it around 10am…so you only have a couple of hours to kill until lunch… lunch from noon to 3pm, walk for an hour and then take a nap… then you will only have an hour or so to get ready before you have cocktails, then dinner… then it is 1am and time to go to bed… not sure you will really have time for much more
Also consider the Museum Campus if you want to stay out of the cold (Field Museum (nice diamond exhibit now), Shedd Acquarium and Adler Planetarium. The weather should be nice this weekend (snow free at least)
It’s going to be cold as hell this weekend. If you’re not used to cold weather- Bring some good boots, hats, and gloves and your time here will be fine.
check out some local theater lots of small venues make this the theater capital of the US. Also the skydeck in the Willis Tower could be a fun diversion…
It’s going to be highs in the upper 20’s - not that bad.
If the Hilton that you are staying at is the Hilton and Towers on S Michigan Avenue, one suggestion for late night is Buddy Guy’s Legends, around the back of your hotel on Wabash. Nice blues club (unfortunately, you missed Buddy’s “residency”, which ended a little over a week ago), and generally very good talent and an interesting crowd.
Avec, Bristol, and a pizza joint that I forget the name of at the moment… and a really good breakfast place off the Roosevelt orange line stop… that I also can’t remember the name of… heh.
Man, I love the Bongo Room! I took the family to Chicago this weekend, and we had had Sunday brunch there. I usually go to the one in Bucktown/Wicker Park, but we went to the location on Roosevelt. I couldn’t talk anyone into the pretzel pancakes, but I had a brown sugar brioche french toast with a caramel brulee sauce and apples cooked in brown sugar and cinnamon. I could literally feel my blood sugar rising as I ate it.
