Anyone have any shops worth hitting in the NW Suburbs of Chicago? Thinking something in the Arlington Heights, Schaumburg, Barrington, Crystal Lake area.
I want to carry on, and want to source a few nice bottles of pinot, cab, and Bordeaux for Christmas with the family this year, and wondering where to go. Thanks in advance! -mJ
Freemott and Manlin’s cellars?
That works! Are they always open, and on an honor system? Leave what you think the bottles are worth in the box by the door? -mJ
Aren’t they one in the same? ![thankyou [thankyou.gif]](/uploads/db3686/original/2X/d/df165fe9c1593d19166ae7e1ffe5e272089cc07b.gif)
Well done Steven.
Alas, my cellar sucks. Scooter’s is fantastic.
To your real question:
Larry kaplan has a shop (The Wine Cellar), Craig Brautingame (sp?) does as well - but can’t think of the damn city all of a sudden and Knightsbridge are al worth visiting.
Craig’s shop can be found at http://www.gcwines.net/shoppingcart/
Great shop! Have not been to Larry’s shop in years…

Unfortunately I didn’t make it to Larry’s shop as I was pressed for time on Christmas Eve, but I did make it in to Craig’s and left with a few bottles for the holidays. Great shop and a great guy! He was even kind enough to open up an Aubert Ritchie while I was there for a taste. Didn’t want to be rude so I stuck around for a bit!
Nice place though, and a great guy. Look forward to visiting more local shops on the next trip! Cheers! -mJ
You must mean Craig’s shop…
Hope your Saturday night meet up in dwntwn Barringon was fun. We were not heading out for anything.
Craig’s shop indeed. Nice little store with some gems! I loaded up on both Antica terra pinot and Lillian syrah there. Nothing says infantcide better than having to source while out of town! That is the only time I really don’t mind opening stuff way early, and it is always a good excuse to. Both wines were enjoyable! Thanks again Craig for the great customer service. Can’t wait to order from him more in the future!
Don’t blame you a bit for not coming out Mel, but we’ll be back agian real soon. Do you ever go to the Barrington Bistro? Is it still BYO? Didn’t have the chance to get there this go aroun, but maybe we can get an offline together when we’re back for baseball season! Cheers! -mJ
BCB has a $20 'ish corkage last time I was there for a OL. Not the best service but it is OK…
