2006 Mugneret Gibourg Clos Vougeot
Beautiful bouquet of strawberry fruit, damp leaves, and some cranberry relish. The palate had ample acidity and beautiful and elegant structure with more pure fruit. No sharp edges like some 06s have, this was wonderfully comforting. The finish was precise, long and beautiful. No need to rush on these, but this is drinking great and I’m glad 06s are singing at the moment.
2009 Cristal Brut
It’s been a couple years since my last bottle, but I have to confess this is still drinking phenomenally! Lemon curd, bright white flowers, and grace on the nose, with a powerful mid palate with more beautiful citrus and stone fruits along with beautiful acidity and texture. Finish was tremendous. This was drinking at least as well as the 13 from the previous night, if not better.
Krug 172
Initially quite tight, this did open up nicely; it had a lovely toasted brioche nose with some lemon zest, and while the palate remained quite tight with lots of acidity, the finish was beautiful. This will need a few years in the cellar but will be a great one!
