It’s how Inspector Clouseau pronounces “vault”.
So, are there still people who haven’t been able to get their wines out? Or is this all sorted now?
More changes! No longer Le Veult - the new signs have all been taken down - the place will apparently become Corvino.
The mockery must have gotten to them
Still, the new name is nothing to crow about
The NY Post loves this story and remains clamped down on it like a gila monster. A lot of rehash but some new stuff.
The Post being the Post there’s overuse of descriptors like posh, swanky, “smart suit.” At this juncture this is less about a battle of posh billionaires than what appears to be failed/failing “entrepreneurs” of shady morals all trying to pick a carcass clean and then scurry back into the shadows. Very sad indeed.
I just want to know who is to be held responsible for “Veult”.
I dunno. I don’t usually disagree with you, but there is a ton to unpack in this article.
“DRC,” according to sources, apparently referred to Domaine Romanee-Conti"
Serious sleuthing there. Glad they have some good sources.
Anyone know the status of the midtown storage location?
FWIW, we picked up a storage client from them last week, still at the TGIF basement location on Seventh Avenue. Usual pulling teeth to finalize arrangements and conduct pickup.
Their website now indicates that they have folded and they recommend to store at Veritas Wine Storage:
Or an incompetent sign maker. A retail friend of mine paid big bucks for a new sign, when they put it up it read
Spring Valley Wine & Liqour
This is true. We are taking a few clients out ASAP. My belief is that the TGIF space on Seventh Avenue is being confiscated at the end of the month. There’s a Marshal’s Legal Possession posting from 11/14/24 so clearly the marshal ain’t doing much. Our driver said there’s still pallets and pallets of wine there. Hard to believe but he saw it today.
EDIT: The CWS staff [sic] will not carry anything up to street level. Whomever is picking up has to do it all themselves. Supposedly no property should be removed subsequent to the marshal’s posting, not an expert on that. But we are picking, assume others are, and it’s all supposed to go to Veritas in lieu of any client saying otherwise.
I worked at Chelsea Wine Storage for 2 1/2 years, from October 2014 to May 2017. While I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and met some great people, I have to say that I’m not surprised to hear any of this news. Saddened, yes. Chelsea Wine Vault and Chelsea Wine Storage were a great place to work. We all got on well, worked well together, and the whole operation ran like a well-oiled machine. I don’t like to tell tales out of school, but we all knew it was the end when the new owners took over. Michael wanted to completely upend the operation and insisted his ideas were workable, instead of just continuing with what had been working well for so long. Many clients who had been storing their wine there for years started closing their accounts when he announced the first of his rate hikes. To make matters worse, he began implementing these changes in the middle of OND, the busiest time of the year in the industry. He was a micromanager and blamed others when things didn’t work out as he had planned. As a result of his arbitrary firing of many long-time employees and others quitting, he burned through nearly the entire staff (about 15 employees) in less than a year, myself included.
It’s a tremendous pity that such a successful business was brought to total ruin by one guy’s ego. I know a couple of people posting here through my time working there, so it’s great to see them posting here and read their insights.
i think this underplays the issue by a lot. no later than fall of 2018, it was clear that retail arm was stealing wines from storage customers and selling them, publicly available in the cold room. to what extent the retail and storage staff was aware of the details of this is impossible to know. but it’s also incredibly unlikely they didn’t know anything.
I was waiting for this type of response. Completely agree.
So, storage customers are completely SOL?
