Checking in on 2000 Bordeaux-Haut Brisson

Having tried this about 5-7 years out from the vintage the wine was tight and angular with little charm. I thought the little Chateau would evolve quicker and this wine proves that they also need time, at least for the 2000 vintage. The wine today has a nice bouquet with lots of earth, spice, and leather. The wine is now quite balanced and silky on the palate with good fruit mostly comprised of cassis and anise. This wine was a steal for what it delivers today and I am enjoying the 12.5% alcohol. I will save my other bottles for about 3 more years as I think more aromatics will develop. The wine was likely shut down on previous attempts, now it is open and really a pleasant surprise.

Sounds good.

I have been mostly hands off of 2000 Bordeaux. Now that we are in year 15 it seems like time to check in again.

Somewhat related, but we had the 2005 Haut Brisson at a tasting last September. It was very impressive and retails for under $40. We bought a few and might try one soon, but these should have a fairly broad drinking window.

Thanks,
Ed
