Chave vs Allemand (vs Reynard vs Jamet?) - Republique, L.A. 9/30/23

Republique, Los Angeles, September 30, 2023 7pm

@CFu booked us a room at Republique in Los Angeles, limiting to 12 people only - each is to bring a 2012 or earlier bottle of Chave, or Allemand Reynard and we’ll see who wins. Bring more if you can or want, so it’s more of a contest, so ideally bringing 2 each is wonderful, but perhaps not realistic

If many people are LEGITIMATELY interested we can have a Battle of the Berserkers, have simultaneous dates in other major metropolitan areas, so people don’t have to fly in, and when limiting to 12 (to be sure those attending get decent pours) this allows for more participants. Even better would be if they were truly simultaneous - same date - so that’s my goal

Here are the 6 vintages of each producer we will target for side by sides

ALLEMAND Reynard

2001-
2004- Charlie Fu
2005-
2007- Michael Chang
2008- Joseph Chong
2012- Andre M

CHAVE
1992 - C_wong
1996 - Matt King
2004- JayK
2005-
2007- The Toddfather
2008 - Dave
2012-

Potentially interested if it’s on a wknd. October would be better. I have pretty deep verticals of Allemand, Chave and Jamet.

I’d likely be able to swing a trip out for this if it were on a Friday rather than a Saturday but my September stinks. Oct. 13 or 27 would work if pushing it a month is acceptable. I’d dig out a '95 Chave but it would be just the one bottle. I’m assuming from the OP that we’d be in actual LA for this and not halfway to San Diego.

I’m legitimately interested but my travel schedule is such a mess these days that I probably can’t commit early to coming to LA. But I’m very interested in organizing a simultaneous Gulf Coast N Rhone event.

Bummer. I’ll be in France Sept.

You’re killing me here! I am going to LA from Sept 10-15. I would’ve loved to go.

Hell yes! Could swing the September 8-9 option in LA - happy to provide bottle(s) as well.

I voted for 8-9 but could manage the other dates. Could provide 90 or 96.

Interested, but unfortunately none of the dates work

Interested and have various vintages of Chave back to 95. Late September works best.

Late sept it Oct is great!

I’m overdue for an LA trip! I’ll be paying close attention to this and would love to join!

Later Sept would be better for me. I have many vintages of Chave including some 80s and early 90s.

Maybe we do an SF version? That way all the cool kids can show up.

That’s the plan, as per the OP - if any region can get 12 (or so) they can setup a simultaneous one. I REALLY think fun could be had if we did them simultaneously, more so than if we spread them out

Interested as well.

Alive and hopefully well, but adding Grippat to this group would be super interesting…

I’d definitely fly in for this

This event really needs to be on neutral ground to be of any value. Come to New Zealand with your bottles. Brodie and I will cook, and even throw in a Rayas ringer ;)!

An epic event in the making. Enjoy, everyone!

I’m in. Where/when?
