What is the Levet?

The levet was condrieu. My WOTN was the ‘06 Chave.

Fantastic wines to try.

Big thank you to @J0hnEhrl1ng for organizing.

1990 Hermitage - Still waiting for my prize on the vintage guessing game - was closest with '89. Alas over the hill with some horse saddle. Still super cool to try.

Jamet 2011 - this opened poorly with espresso grind and bell peppers and disappointment. Double trouble bc I bought it. In retrospect, I suspect this was due to the waiter dumping the whole bottle into the decanter. An hourish later, it opened up great! Herbal, with olive tapenade, and rich fruit. Super lovely and drinking great!

Jamet 2006 (Magnum) - was curious for this b/c '04 is my favorite. Found this to be less on the bbq meat side and more on the fruit and herb side (in line with '11). This is good now, but feels like it has a ton of time ahead of it. Good structure.

Levet 2020 - I typically like this style of wine older, but objectively yummy now. Textured, but giving.

Chave '09 and '06 - No Notes. Do remember there was nothing wrong with the bottles at all and that I preferred '06 in line with @J0hnEhrl1ng

Juge 2012 and 2013 Allemand Reynard - Both of these had a wonderful floral and perfume element. I think '13 was my favorite red of the night as I found it more expressive than the '12

CdC 2012 - Snappily aggressive on the open. Drastic change over time. 1.5 hrs in the bubbles here chilled out, the fruit swept in and the secondary notes woke up. Wonderful. I have this in cellar so taking as a sign I don’t need to rush on it at all.

Lafon 2014 Meursault - Charmes - like the CdC this did not show well on the pop - bit of a brute. Went back to it at end of the meal and just wow - best white Burg I’ve had in a minute, the power is there for sure but so together and great balance b/n fruit/nonfruit. Ironically my WOTN. Special thanks to @Alex_Valdes for bringing and also curses to Alex b/c I’ve done a good job not spending on Burgundy this year and now that has to change.

As far as the restaurant, I would not do San Pietro again. Great location. The wait staff were charming, but a pain with the wines. The apps were incredible, but we got 3 dry steaks which only 1 of us had the energy to send back.

Joseph was just telling me the steaks were not good. So sorry to hear that. I’ve been there many times and it was always excellent. Definitely unacceptable that the steaks were dry.

Thanks for the notes. Regarding the CdC, I decant them when I drink them for now.

The 12 was Juge.
The wine service was certainly unique (and well intentioned). Each wine had a different type of glass, and was decanted into a different decanter. Then a table was set up with each bottle next to it’s decanter and an empty glass of the correct “type” as a “key.” In theory not a bad idea but it was too clever by half…and I’d prefer to drink all wines from the same glass.
Yeah and the waiter didn’t quite get the point of decanting old wines off sediment.

But anyway it was a fun dinner regardless! My lamb chops were solid but I was stuffed after the apps and pastas…though I forgot to take the box of leftovers home. Apparently a forgetful day for me.
