Chateau Thivin - Cuvee Zacharrie and Cuvee La Chappelle???

So I’m a big Thivin Cotes de Brouilly fan. As I noted in another thread, love the meaty, briny nature of this wine. Have consumed as much of this wine from the 2009-11 vintages as perhaps any other “everyday” wine. I emphasize the word everyday as it is a vin du garde, in my humble opinion, but with an inexpensive buy-in. Averages about $20. For that price, it’s about as good as a wine gets. It’s much much better than just plain “good”.

Today I learn that Thivin produces two other, perhaps upper-end, cuvees: The Cuvee Zacharrie and the Cuvee La Chappelle. La Chappelle’s “plot is located at the top of Mont Brouilly, on an arid soil composed of blue metamorphic rock, with southerly exposure and slopes of up to 50%.” The Zacharrie appears to be a blend of grapes from the La Chappelle plot and the standard plots used in the Cote de Brouilly blend.

Website:

I have not tried either of these cuvees, and none exist locally from the places where I source the regular CdB. Has anyone tried these wines before, and if so, what’s a good source?

Thanks.

Thanks for posting this. I, too, am a huge fan of Thivin’s CdB, and (now) am extremely intrigued by the possibility of these other two bottlings.

I looked and their are 4+ cuvees that are not in the US
thivin cuvee les griotte cote de brouilly
thivin cuvee marguerite beaujolais
thivin cuvee la chapelle cote de brouilly
thivin cuvee zaccharie cote de brouilly

I’ve had 2009 Cuvée Zacharie and found it to be a bit shut down at the time of drinking it (early this year). Hard to form an opinion for me. It seemed more at ease than the 2009 “Clos Bertrand” though. I bought the 2011 Cuvée Zacharie and the La Chapelle. In Germany, both are not much more expensive than the 7 Vignes bottling. There doesn’t seem to be a “Clos Bertrand” from 2011 though.

Interesting, I did not see those other two on the website.

Now I’m salivating, but it could be the salinity! [cheers.gif]
