I am bringing one to dinner. Last one I had was completely shut down. How long should I pop this before dinner or is it not going to help much?
I personally wouldn’t open it now - probably still shut down and will be so for the next few years. I’d truly switch to an older bottle of this wine or something entirely different. Probably not what you wanted to hear . . .
Seems like the general consensus Im getting. How long do you think I should leave it for before drinking?
Tough to say - but in general, these tend to ‘shut down’ and then reemerge approximately 10 years or so down the line. No hard facts - you can look at what others are saying on CT etc about older vintages . . .
Cheers
I’ve previously been told to wait till these bottles are in their teens to open
I love this cuvee. I think it is one of the great white wines of the world. I read an article many years ago where the winemaker said that Rousanne has a dumb phase. It is great to drink in the first 5 years, but then you need to wait until after 10 years for it to come out of its shell. I have had a lot of vintages and this has been a pretty good rule of thumb. I will say though that 5 years could be pushing it in some cases as I had some 2016s and 2017s in 2021-2022 and they had shut down. Still waiting . . .
