Wine Berserkers has been a very special place for me—I’ve been here since October 2009, though I don’t post often, despite Marcus’ best efforts. I’ve learned so much about wine from members of the forum and built some really awesome relationships, as well. I want to thank you all, but especially Todd and the mods+BerserkerDay team.
Who We Are:
We (my wife and I) are a very small (600 case) winery (renting space in the corner of Vincent Fritzsche’s facility in Amity). Starting in 2018, we set out to make thoroughly uncompromising white wines of impeccable quality, which reward age and are geared towards drinking with food. We’re loosely inspired by the wines of Friuli, which we think shares a vinous link with our little corner of Oregon, and our bottles have bright acidity and mineral-driven personalities.
That means we give our wines time, attention (and as a result, capital) that not a lot of bottles at our prices see, especially when we’re talking longer elevage (12-18 months for basically everything). I spent a long time in the wine-retail trenches and delivering exceptional value has always been a mantra of mine.
"Saul Mutchnick makes small batches of stellar white wines at a corrugated tin outpost in the Eola-Amity Hills. For me, they are among the best in Oregon.” - Michael Alberty, The Oregonian
The Offer:
In the past, we’ve been sold out and so have done a sneak peek for the spring release, but we’ve got a little wine in the warehouse that didn’t make it to distribution and can offer it to you at special BerserkerDay pricing. We also put together a six-pack and twelve-pack samplers for anyone who wants an assortment of what we think you should try (without the hassle of reading all my verbiage). We also have…
THE RAFFLE: We’re giving away one of our ultra-rare magnums of 2019 Silicone on Sapphire “Extended Elevage.” Just six cases (36 mags) were made, and two were auctioned off last year for $225 each. None have ever been sold.
Everyone who makes a purchase and then post a comment in this thread will be entered to win. Shipping included. You can find more details about them in the auction thread from last year, and the magnum also boasts a hand-painted/numbered label!
Shipping is ***still*** a flat $25 on any size order, and discounts will automatically display in the webstore.
If you don’t see your state listed as a shipping option, just email your order to saul@championshipbottle.com and we can get you squared away.
As always, if you have any questions about the wines/the winery/etc, feel free to fire away in this thread!
Take me to the wines!

2022 Gravity’s Pull Chardonnay
Retail $37, BerserkerDay Price: $29: The 2022 Gravity’s Pull is one of the best versions of the wine we’ve made—it’s easy to point to when making the case that 2022 is the best collection in our winery’s short history. As always, this comes from ungrafted vines in Dion Vineyard, and it has some of the tension and brightness of the ‘19 with a bit of the richness of the ‘21. It’s beautifully balanced between delicate fruit and minerality, and you can (and should) pour it for your Burgundy-only friends. This is always from Dion Vineyard and its ungrafted Chardonnay vines, planted in windblown loess soils. It’s telling that across Europe, producers who are lucky enough to have ungrafted vineyards prize them supremely for the je ne sais quoi they seem to provide Every time we taste Gravity’s Pull, we think that must be happening here, as well, and we’re grateful to get to work with the vineyard. This wine fermented and aged for eleven months in older oak barrels before we transferred it into stainless steel tanks for a final six months to build tension into the wine. We only make a tiny amount: one puncheon and two barrique’s worth of wine this vintage
2022 History Ablaze Pinot Noir Rosato
Retail $42, BerserkerDay Price: $29: Single-vineyard Pinot Noir from La Cantera Vineyard macerated long enough to extract a cherry-hue, pressed and then aged for nearly 18 months in older barrels. This is a tribute to our favorite “serious” roses—wines like Valentini and Pepe Cerasuolo, Pataille Fleur de Pinot, L’Anglore, and Chateau Simone—that have either gotten significantly more expensive, or hard to find, or both. It’s got plenty of red fruit like pie cherries and ripe Sea Star strawberries, patina’d with dried orange zest, spice, and a bit of thyme. We expect it to develop even more savoriness with more age—and we will absolutely be hiding some away in the cellar.
2022 Hard Promises Pinot Blanc
Retail $35, BerserkerDay Price: $27: A flinty, electric-edged version of the wine—a throwback to the ‘18 in a lot of ways. The vintage had a late harvest, which meant that acidity stayed bright even as the grapes were able to develop an exotic, yuzu ripeness. At this point, Hard Promises has its own fan club and production is still tiny, so perhaps it’s not wise for us to fan the flames of demand too much. Yet with an hour or two in a decanter, this reveals immense potential, and so like past vintages it should blossom in the cellar into precisely what we hope Pinot Blanc can be. As always, this is sourced from Twelve Oaks Vineyard, which is a beautifully farmed site off of Bell Road in the Chehalem Mountains. Its Laurelwood soils give it a savoriness and drive that’s irresistible to me, and we balance that brightness with a long, 18-month rest in neutral barrels to bring texture and complexity to the wine.
2023 A Thousand Dreams Field Blend
Retail $36, BerserkerDay Price: $27: A wine that ended up embodying our Friuli-meets-Oregon idea like few others. The short version is that it’s a field blend of Ribolla Gialla, Tocai Friulano, and Pinot Noir, all harvested together from the same block and pressed as a white wine. It’s farmed by the incomparable Jess Miller from a tiny (6 acre) vineyard she leases in the Chehalem Mountains’ Ladd Hill. Because of the Pinot in the mix, A Thousand Dreams is very gently pink (aka ramato, or onion-skin), though its personality is very much white-wine. Fermented and aged in a 500L puncheon (and a bit of stainless steel) it’s exceptionally food friendly, as well, with flavors of tart white peach, a gentle, cool-green/sage-y herb tone, a touch of waxiness, and the faintest hit of white strawberries.
2022 Lost Coastlines Pinot Noir
Retail $45, BerserkerDay Price: $34: Lost Coastlines in 2022 certainly reflects the excellent vintage, but it’s also fair to say it equally reflects how much we learned in our second year working with Fir Crest Vineyard’s Pinot Noir. (Though, unfortunately, quantity is down by ~33% this year.) It’s a site that we believe to be the most interesting in the entirety of the prestigious Yamhill-Carlton AVA, but whose reputation hadn’t yet caught up to its quality. The 2022 shows a bit more red fruit than the ‘21, and the tannins—while certainly present—have a refinement that reflects our year-over-year improvement in winemaking.
2022 You + Me + The Moon White Wine
Retail $28, BerserkerDay Price: $21: An homage to the fresh, electric white wines of Friuli—where blending grapes to combine their individual strengths is a long-standing tradition. Made from Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, and Pinot Gris, it’s a delightful wine that’s capable of aging for a half-decade, but we won’t be able to keep our hands off it for that long.
2022 Lusty Little Crushes Pinot Noir/Gris
Retail $27, BerserkerDay Price: $20: We love making light, fresh reds—the kind of wines that make you wonder where the rest of the bottle went and seemingly pair with everything. Lusty Little Crushes in the newest incarnation of that paradigm, a co-fermentation of Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris that reminds us of bottles from the Loire or Beaujolais in its red fruited, vibrant personality.
Take me to the wines!
