Worth grabbing? I’ve had a few of their chardonnays in the past, which in their youth are very zippy and zesty. Much more enjoyable, in my opinion, after about 2-3 years. Any thoughts on these wines would be much appreciated.
Don’t have experience with either of the Pinots, but I trust everything they do. Have been buying since the beginning, never been disappointed with any bottle of Ceritas I opened.
I had the 18 Carex and was not a fan. Felt like it was the weakest out of their Chardonnay portfolio.
CH is a good one, but not my favorite.
I’m surprised & giddy that they moved TG and PB Chardonnay to the same release (Fall), so that I won’t have to pay for S/H twice for what I consider their best Chardonnays along with Occidental Pinots.
I absolutely love Ceritas but I’m pretty disappointed in the price increases for this release. Cuvee Chloe is one of my favorite pinots they make but $15 more than last Fall is too much for me to swallow. I also feel like $70 for these two chardonnays is right on the edge of too much as well.
I bough 3x Charles Heintz because I remember it as great, but now I’m realizing I might have mixed it up with the Peter Martin Ray Chard that I truly loved. Also bummed at the price hike - I think I’ll only get the Cab from now on.
Last year they increased the Cab from $90 to $125 I expected the rest of the range to increase in price this year so I’m not happy but also not surprised.
I think this year its not the PMR Cab from Santa Cruz but something called Colima? No clue what that is or where that’s from.
Thanks for your insight everyone - appreciated. The price, for me, is right at that edge. I think I am going to pass on this release. When I think about other chards/pinots I can get in this price range (plus shipping!), it makes more sense for me to pass.
Me too. Some of the best. But I’m right at the edge at $125. If it goes up further, I’m out. Already broke my “not paying $100 for a wine”-rule for them and Beta.
Oof. I have been buying regularly on the list for a while now - and Heintz chard and Trout Gulch Pinot are two of my faves - but I’m not thrilled about the price hike. It’s definitely worth that amount of money, but I like it better when I feel like I am really getting a deal! I’ll probably still do 3 Heintz and 3 TG though.
I didn’t even clock the price increase. Damn, that’s a big jump. I think I’m still in for half a case of TG chard in the fall… but that and the Cab might max out my budget for them now.
Great commentary. Really bummed to see the Chardonnay price hike to $70 from $59 last year on these. PB was always for the higher cost, but what will it now be? Their Chardonnay’s are my favorite. Haven’t tried the PN as that isn’t my favorite varietal. Tough sell here when you can find these in good shape at lower cost on auction. Always a gamble but I originally bought some older vintages on auction with great success before making the allocation list a few years ago.
two vintages of their first syrah. My guess is lighter style more in line with say Arnot-Robert Syrah style. Not usually my preference on Syrah compared to Rhone, Barossa, Souther Cali big guns.
