Cellar Question ~ Loose large format bottles

I’m a big lover of large format and while many of them come in their own case, there are instances when i bought only one or two mags or a 3 litter so no owc case. How do you store those bottles? If you can post a pic it would be great as I would like to build something. Thanks

A lot of times I will buy a shipper box for the loose mags to store them.

I have wine racks that don’t extend all the way to the ceiling in my wine cellar. The top of the wine racks are configured the same way the interior spaces are, so the “ribs” keep the magnums and double-mags from rolling. Then I just stack them one or two high, with the upper bottles resting on the “crotch” made by two lower bottles.

Given that they start out higher than any other bottles in the cellar, they’re a bit hard to get at, and if I want one of the lower bottles I have to do some unpacking. But I don’t take them down that often, counting on their reputed ability to age slower than 750s.

I also bought some in original wooden boxes, and have left them there.

I put mine in magnum specific slots, if they are too big for that (Cdp doesn’t fit) then I put them on the unfinished tops of each column…you can see what I mean in this photo:

They offer multiple storage systems for single Mags etc. You can choose the language in upper right part of the site. No affiliation, only that I know the owner from another board, drink sometimes with him and have admired some of his cellars.

I store my large formats on the top of my wine racks. Currently, no space left [help.gif]

The few 3l formats I bought came with an owc. I have a few more coming and will store them in which ever container they come. I have not bought extra large formats off the shelf so did not have to think about this but my next wine racks will not have any “sinusoidal” shape so I can basically put on there any format I want…

Individual magnum bins, on the tops of regular racks, and in diamond bins, which work well for Bordeaux bottles, like Monfortino comes in!!
