Catastrophic Fires In Napa and Sonoma

Merrill, I think about how awful that last fire must have been for you and everyone affected. Peace, hope and love to you and everyone there.

Accuweather.com has a blurb about the coming wildfire season, and they predict a well-above-average amount of wildfire in the western states:

Here is one drought monitor for California. Most of the Northern California wine country areas are characterized as being in ‘severe drought’.

Moisture levels so low in Ca, they just found a giant sequoia smoldering and emitting smoke from last summer in the Sequoia National Park. It had an oxygen and fuel rich spot inside a very dry tree, simple!
Uh, oh!

That’s not unusual, protected from rain no matter how much there is.

Thanks, Nola. Your sensitivity is appreciated. Some other people just don’t get it.

Really? I see an abundant amount of empathy, love and understanding here. Especially for those that lost their homes, wineries, family, everything. Perhaps it’s like looking for morels, you can walk by them 100 times and not see them until that one time and you do! Speaking of which, I’m going to my woods to search!!

There was a small (7 acre) fire in Big Basin park in the Santa Cruz Mtns. this week. They reported this morning that it was a flare-up from the fires last year. Usually this part of the SCM’s would receive over 60 inches of rain in the winter. No such luck this year. Going to be a long summer for people up there.

Yes, there were reports of underground smolders long after the fires were “out”.

Anyone have any update to Signorello’s rebirth?

The rebuild process had been a bit slow for them as they wanted to double their winery production and triple the amount of permitted visitors (both were eventually approved). There was also a problem with the design of their new solar array - not sure if that got resolved.
