Casual dinner around Tyson's Corner, VA

Driving down tomorrow afternoon for work (staying a little less than 24 hours in the area). I’ll probably be getting into the hotel (Tyson’s Corner Crowne Plaza) around 7:30pm or so. Where can I grab a decent, casual meal and brew/wine on a Monday night?

Thanks.

Evo Bistro in McLean is a nice place with a very good selection of wines by the glass. In Vienna, the Maplewood Grill is a good, casual spot with a decent selection of beers on tap. Both these places are on Route 123 and have websites that’ll give you directions. Neither of them should be at all hard to get to from where you’re staying. I’d call for reservations at the first spot.

Another option, of course, would just be to go across 123 to the Tysons Center Mall and find a place–plenty of choices, as there would be on your hotel’s side of 123 in Tysons Galleria Mall. And, there’s a branch of the Palm on the same side of 123 as your hotel and within walking distance. Oh yeah–there’s a Clyde’s (a fine place for a burger and a beer) rather close to your hotel as well–ought to be a fairly easy walk, but I’m not sure how easy it’d be to hoof it over there in the dark, as the area’s not very pedestrian friendly.

I’d be at the Crowne Plaza this week except my family joined me due to spring break so were a few miles south near a Metro stop.

I like Clydes and the Maplewood Grill as well. The malls (there are two giant malls right next to each other) have tons of options. Legal Seafood is decent but pricey. There are a couple passable Thai places in the area too (I had the same server between two different places and when I asked her about it, she told me she actually works at three different places). I also like Greveys which is about 3 miles or so south on Gallows.

Where do you work? I’m on a semi long term contract at Freddie Mac now…

Randall / Tim,

Thanks for the suggestions; sounds like Clyde’s or Maplewood are exactly what I was hoping for. I had seen that a Gordon Biersch was right across from the hotel but when I went to the website I wasn’t exactly won over by what I saw.

Tim, too bad you won’t be around. We could have had at least a beer or glass of wine.

I walked by Gordon Biersch – it’s in one of the malls, I forget which one. Looked very large and very busy. Clyde’s is very close to the Crowne Plaza. The road to Maplewood Grill is often backed up with traffic so keep that in mind.

This place in Tyson’s Corner Mall isn’t bad. Note that everything is less than 475 calories (or something like that) so if you are used to eating more and don’t order much, you may leave hungry.
