Curious as to your feelings about this. And would it matter if the cork is unbranded?!?!?
Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated

I’m pro-nothing.
Worst is wax or anything that’s difficult or messy to remove.
I prefer nothing. I think it looks better with a branded cork.
Wax is a nice touch and when done right there is no problem with removal…many of the better Swiss winemakers now do nothing. I like Big Basin and Scholium who use nothing, but brand the ends of their corks. This does tend to make your life easier when trying to find a bottle.
My Biodynamic Loire producer, Pascal Pibaleau, has stopped using corks and foil for his sparkling Grolleau at my request. From now on his bottles will be under capsule with no foil. Since this is a natural Pet’Nat, I think it better fits the image of the wine.
So far, the reaction by the buying public has been fantastic.
My personal opinion is that bare with a branded cork is preferred. However, I’ll add that no capsule really freaks Lori out, as if the capsule is like the “tamper proof” seal on a bottle of Tylenol.
For winery direct purchases she’s ok with it, but a lot of winery direct purchases will eventually be bought/sold by 3rd or 4th parties at which point does not having a capsule matter? Personally I think if you’re going to fake a wine, putting a capsule on it isn’t much more of a stretch so I think this isn’t an issue, but it might be to some.
For a WB participating winery, going the “no capsule” route probably means having to answer periodic questions about capsules
Larry, you’re all screwcap anyway, no?
Larry,
Yep, all screw caps . . . . except collaborative projects, like Les Duex Comtes that I am doing with John Cabot (hint hint) . . .
Cheers!
Uh…I don’t get it
I like no foil or capsule. i find that sometimes they attack my fingers after a few bottles
I strongly prefer screwcaps, but if I have to have a cork I strongly prefer nothing over the top. Eliminating capsules is becoming more and more common.
with Coravin on the market and in use now, I am in favor of either a dab of wax on the top of the cork or a capsule. Prior to Coravin, I could have cared less.
I want the cork branded with year and wine also.

hope you aren’t the proofreader for your collaborative project.

Luckily…
- many on no capsule but branded and vintage dated cork. Less cost to you, less work for me. I prefer it so I can see if there has been any issues with the seal of the cork. Like the look as well.
+1
Nada.
Best, Jim
Not sure why, but I’m smitten by wax capsules. Doubt it serves any purpose at all, but I like the aesthetic, even if it leaves a bloody mess at times. And yes, brand the cork, real cork.
Screwcap, where possible.
Larry, nothing. As examples, I like both Copain and Wind Gap, which are branded corks with no capsule. Wax adds an element of mess, I don’t need that either.

Sliced my finger wide open. I hate wax seals.
