Canmore, Canada - ANKOR

Came up for a week to hike and climb.
Found this relatively new restaurant called Ankor.
An absolute revelation.

Danny the head chef has not had any formal training. Originally from Quebec, he’s had experiences working in several kitchens, none famous. A self proclaimed food geek, he has been obsessed with food for years. He told us he loves Canmore and the lifestyle (outdoors) and has no interest in going to a big city.

I’ve been to many Michelin star restaurants, many in Bay Area. If it’s important to you, I would give it two stars.

The food is exciting, delicious, precise, intellectual. So good that we cancelled at another place to go again. He was kind to mix up the six course menu with different dishes the second night. You can choose 6 course or a La cart.

A must eat place.
The price is silly - $110CAD.

Honorable mentions for Canmore - CommuniTea for lunch and Rocket Pie for pizza.

What Dan doesn’t say is that this restaurant is at the top of a 5.12 route :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Shhh we don’t have michelin stars up here yet! The dining scene in Canmore/Banff has gotten significantly better in the last 10 years.

Sauvage is another decent find in Canmore, had a really eclectic wine pairing menu with regions in Eastern Europe that were really interesting last time we went.

Hi Scott,
We went to Sauvage as well.
The service was indifferent and food was good, but not exciting, at least when we went.
But they are also very different.

Ankor is easily one of the top 2-3 places I’ve eaten this year.

Was funny, we had the exact opposite a couple years ago. Sounds like we’ll need to give Ankor another chance next time. Cheers!
