Canandaigua dining options?

Heading upstate (yes Michel, there is a “real” upstate north of Westchester) Sunday afternoon for work. Should arrive right around dinner time. Staying in Victor but a German restaurant in Canandaigua caught my attention. Does anyone know anything about Rheinblick? Menu and beer list look decent enough (wine list is horrible).

If not, any other recommendations either in Victor or Canandaigua?

Thanks.

If you are staying in Victor, you must eat very little. It is the Victor way!

You’ll be just as close to Rochester as Canandaigua, so you should have a lot of choices. Most Wegman’s have great food courts!

You may want to PM Jordan W or Evan Dawson.

I’ll be staying on a rooftop terrace and BYOing my own wine!

Ahhhh Victor jokes, just like children, can’t ever have too many of them. [snort.gif]

But seriously Doc V., why would you suggest a grocery store food court?

I’m not sure it is what you’re looking for, esp. since you’ll be by yourself. But the high-end Wegmans are listed in most guidebooks to the area. We stayed in Penn Yan and went over to Canandaigua for one day and to Rochester for another. We didn’t have anything special in terms of restaurants. If you have the time, the Sonnenberg Gardens in Canandaigua are gorgeous. The Strong Museum of Play in Rochester is great too.

My in-laws live in Rochester. I would head up 490 a few miles to Pittsford, which has both the flagship Wegmans (yes the food court is great) and Century Pittsford wines (fantastic selection) in the same plaza. For an inexpensive but tasty dining option, Simply Crepes has a location in both Pittsford and Canandaigua.

simply crepes is not bad but not great.

in rochester area, wegmans’ owned Next Door Grill in Pittsford. Favorite is “Good Luck” in the “city”. Next Door is closer to Victor however

Sorry gents, allow me to expand a bit more: I am actually going with my boss, so not alone. If the Wegman’s food court is “all that” then I will definitely keep it as an option (since he’s a picky eater). That said, it’s not often that I get the chance to indulge my 25% German heritage and this place (Rhineblick in Canandaigua) sounds pretty nice.

No one has an opinion on it?

Jorge, It’s not a decent place to eat. The food is good, at times not that authentic tasting, but overall really good.

Virgil, thanks for the post but I’m a little confused by it. It’s “not a decent place to eat” but at the same time it’s “overall really good”? [scratch.gif]

Ooops… I edited it incorrectly… “It’s a decent place to eat” is what it should have said. I think that they try too hard with the decor, and at times the food is richer than I have found in Germany, if that makes sense.

Sorry to confuse…

Gotcha Virgil. Thanks. Hitting the road in about 10 minutes do hope to be getting there just around 8. I haven’t met a wiener schnitzel I haven’t liked yet, so I’m sure Rhineblick will be more than decent. 98 effing degrees in the shade today. I can just feel that Hefeweiss calling out to me.
