Hello Berserkers,
I am planning a trip to Detroit in several weeks and am interested in going to some of the wineries on the Canadian side (Windsor). Does anyone have any recommendations on who to visit? I really only want to drive 1 hour max from Detroit to visit a winery. I enjoy high acid wines such as Rieslings and cool climate reds such as those from the New York Finger Lakes.
I know MI has some wineries as well but they don’t appear to be near Detroit.
Any help would be appreciated thanks!
Interested in what you might find. I know that there are wineries in Amhurstberg and Point Pelee, but I’ve never known them to be of particularly high quality. Best of luck
I’m also interested in this. Would make for a good outing on the next visit back home.

Truthfully, if you’re looking for great Canadian wine I’m not sure you’ll really find it in Erie.
Colio has been around forever and I believe some of their Small Lot series get reasonably decent reviews among the local press; Dancing Swallows makes more artisanal, natural-leaning wines, but I cannot really recall the one or two times I’ve tasted them.

A bit of a blind spot for I’m afraid so I await others responses.
The area certainly seems to lack stars (within the Ontario firmament);, or visibility generally. A number of low priced basic wines on LCBO shelves. I did have a Pelee Island Reserve Pinot the other day that was decent but not out of the ordinary.
My basic take is Pas vaut le détour., but happy to be corrected.
I’m curious as to why this should be. Is it location / climate, or simply Niagara sucks all the investment away.

From what I could find it looks like Pelee Island Winery and the natural wines of Dancing Swallows might be some options. I just have a hard time convincing myself that a 2 hr drive (in total) is worth it to try some of their wines.
I plan to go to Costco to check out their bottles so maybe I will find some good ice wines or late harvests, I will post my results back here!
