What’s dumb about these events is you can do them yourself without the middle man taking his cut and it would cost about half. I get that not everyone knows 11 other people who would bring an RC, but if you have $33k to spend on a wine dinner, it’s not that hard to meet similar such people.
As you know, I’m against drinking RC at mass dinners because I think it’s a wine you need a lot of time with; were a dinner like this be organized I would want to have like at least an hour per flight, so 6-8 hours total also, not sure if that’s how the acker dinners go but that seems unlikely give that the dinner starts at 7 pm
What do you think is the “correct” pricing level on these sorts of dinner? Seems like this one is about 2-2.5x current auction pricing per bottle, which is not terrible as far as these things go as long as the pours are decent, etc. Question of course is if you should be using that or allocation pricing.
There are usually 10 to 12 people at these events and the wines for the dinners are often (though not always) sourced from a single collector (including those on this forum) or from the Domaine. It is of course cheaper to host such a dinner with friends (and many of us often do), but it is also cheaper to do one’s own dental work. It is also harder to get Loic Dugat-Py to come to the dinner and bring his own wine. For dinners where the wines are sourced from the Domaine or a single cellar the producer/collector often talks about the wines as well, which is certainly interesting to me. It’s always great to talk to the producers and learn more about the wines, or to the people who have been drinking the wines for many years.
As far as the pricing - everyone decides on what the appropriate pricing is for themselves. I find the Acker dinners to be pretty good value (and have been to a few) and I know the people that run them (who are very nice). I do not find the pricing to be out of line for what the “correct” pricing should be for these sorts of events, and they do more under the radar dinners that are especially unique. I am not going to pay to go to the RC dinner, but I’ll attend at least one of the other dinners for sure.

I think its kinda nuts ppl pay that. I can understand why. Hard to believe, My father collected a few of those wines they offer. We have a few Lafites, Moutons, Canon, Heitz, Margaux, and many more bottles from the 80s n 90s. Mostly Cali reds though. I was blown away when i looked up his collection.
People drop money like that to be in the front row for a rock concert or courtside for an NBA game, to fly first class on international flights, or to stay in the Presidential Suite at a fancy hotel.
Not me, of course, but people with a lot of money spend lavishly for experiences, and I get it.
I know, i know, Im like you, not me. I “know” ppl that drop money like that. When i win the lottery sure lol.
Someday, i hope. I aint got that kinda money at this moment in life. Maybe in few years after we sell off our estate. For me wine is a brand new experiance and wonder! I really really like it. Its opened my mind again.
