I have to admit, the first few Cameron Hughes wines I had from Costco a year and a half or two back I wasn’t very impressed with. That said, thank you Cameron(and Michael Havens), I found the the Lot 169, 178, and 179 very good after some(and in some cases a lot of) air. These are structured reds with significant acidity and tannin. Also, the CH customer service and packaging is high quality. No sure I’m quite as happy with some of the fake corks, but as long as it lets them lay down for a few years it should be OK. Now, I’m wondering about the new Lot 182, which sounds interesting. With all the crazy wine bargains out there, Cameron has a very tough task ahead but I’m a fan of the latest releases and reds with some structure and acidity generally. I’ll surely try many more. Now I need Cameron to give us a wink on which ones are the standouts.
Agreed. I received 2 cases of assorted CH wines today, with 14 of them being the Lot 179, which was awesome for the price. What looks good CH?
Agreed. Id like a little more “scoop” on the 182 as well. Wonder if its really from a $50 program or just excess…shiners not withstanding
Very tempted to bite on the 182. Didnt get a chance to enjoy the Black and Blue. Unfortunately, they got shipped over a hot weekend and the capsules had seeped. The one bottle I opened went down the drain after half a glass. Of course the good folks at CH, were more than happy to take them back and credit me.
Definitely check out tomorrow’s releases, plenty of odd format stuff from you know who…also look for our upcoming Lot 188 Chalk Hill and Lot 189 Stags Leap Releases…after that is our best wine for 2010, Lot 200 Napa Valley Cabernet (Oakville, Rutherford, Stags Leap districts)…Lot 201 Sonoma Coast PInot looking good too as well as Lot 209 Los Carneros Chardonnay, tropical fruit bomb (this last wine is a stylistic departure from the aforementioned reds which are more on the structured side).
As for Lot 182, this is the $50 flagship bottling for an Atlas peak producer simply rightsizing their inventory…they are still selling 03’ and 04’s which is normal for them as they like to late release, but just not this late. Trust me, its really good wine.
For some reason this is top of mind for me but also make sure to let your purchases sit for a bit…the more structured stuff (I have no idea why) tends to shock up in travel.

I backed up the truck on Lot 116 and 143 and every bottle that I have had are excellent for the $18.70 per bottle that I paid. I am definately going to purchase Lot 189 and 200.
The wink/nudge is what I wrote above. seriously. One other piece of advice is to grab the Lot 179 2005 375’s - these are half bottles of the former 2005 Havens Black and Blue…93 points from Parker…also grab the other lot 179 formats and the Lot 198 2007 375’s, these are half bottles of the 2007 (secret)

In for 2 cases of the 198 splits. Not sure if intentional, but Cam has allowed for free shipping on 24 even for splits! Recently opened one of the relabeled Black and Blue - wonderful wine. At $15, it is like stealing.
I’m a little confused. The lot 179 is labeled 2007 but is actually Havens’ 2005 fruit? and the 198 is actually 2007?
179 offers both vintages it seems. 198 looks gone to me at this point.
Lot 179 is applied to several different size versions of the 2007 Havens Black and Blue…375’, 1.5l’s, etc…there is also a Lot 179 2005 Havens Black and Blue…kind of an outlier…the rest of the wines are 2007.
The 2005 Havens Black and Blue scored 93 points from Parker if that is of interest to you. I think its an absolutely fantastic little bottle of wine.

Cameron- On the web site there are two 375ml 179s: one is 2005 and one is 2007. (The 1.5L is listed as 2007)
