Cam X Wine Company

Lol that’s what I was thinking too. I’ve got a few of these cases coming eventually from winevip, but I can’t sing their praises without tasting them!

I said these offers have exceeded my expectations. Not the wine, Yet….

Not exceeding my expectations yet!
I am still waiting for the first true FM exclusive offer. You know that $300 bottle for $20. LFG Cam…… We have been waiting very patiently.

I got 3 cases of X #12. Seems to fit the bill?

Nine Suns has 100 points? Dont think so. I think this could be Bryant wine that is blended from their lots. Makes sense with the description “sourced” and “originating label”. The dominant wine is the cab and the remaining is blend of DB4 or other lots they may have produced. Chapellet tends to use 100% new oak. Could it be Ovid? JD used the word kaleidoscope to describe it and it fits without much modification. So if it’s Ovid or Bryan that would be pretty sweet.

FYI, I sent an email to the address on the Cam X Cellar website a few days ago thanking them for creating it, but asking them to add a “community source guess” column. Crickets so far, but it was a holiday weekend. I politely said that the online message boards generally disagree with the AI source guesses that they have listed.

I wonder if Cameron Hughes will possibly resurrect his old de Négoce Lots 1-200 Cab-A-Palooza blog suggesting DRINK OR HOLD narratives for the new CAM X or other offered wines? Reading between-the-lines, he quite specifically told us of the value in holding many numbered lots.

I’m curious the community feeling about the likelihood for an Ovid or Bryant bottling to be $16. It seems fairly far fetched, but I do think the bulk market is different these days.

My source guess for Lot 12 was Gandona Encosta (don’t remember where the community landed). I’m with you…wish it it be true, but feel/fear it’s too far fetched. That said, Pritchard Hill is one of my absolutely favorite areas/sources for CS, so I’m already in for 2 cases. Personally, I love Gandona Encosta. If it ends up being something even better (Brand, Ovid, etc.), that’s just gravy. $199 for a case of Pritchard Hill CS? Yes. Blindly. Twice.

Me personally, I lean more Chappellet (Ovid second choice) for lot 12. I don’t think Gandona fits the bill since their Estate Cab caps out at $275. And not too many people even know Gandona, so it’s not “drenched in pedigree.” Just my opinion, but I’d be happy with any of the PH wineries!

Generally agree with this. Ovid, Bryant, or Chappellet. I’m just finding the quality of the wines that are reaching consensus to be far higher than the wines sourced from De Negoce sequentially so seems like there’s just more on offer to Cam or we are way off base.

Adding to this, I would have preferred the mix and match continue on CamX site, but is it possible to get a 7/12 mix match option on WineVIP if not?

Or we’re really falling for the wordsmithing. For Lot 12, the sentence that draws my attention is “with multiple 98-100 pt scores under the belt of its originating label”. Is this wine the same as the ‘originating label’? I don’t think so. I fully believe it’ll be the rip-snorting rockstar juice that Cam stated (again, I’m in for 2 cases), but not the same wine that’s getting 98-100 points. If it’s Ovid, as an example, it was likely extra gallons from their Experimental line (not the flagship nor Hexameter). If Bryant, likely DB4, etc. Good call-out re: Gandona’s pricing (dripping w/ pedigree is subjective, so ignoring that comment), but $275 was the '21 pricing…not unreasonable to presume the '23 will be priced north of $300. Given the lack of concrete clues on this one, these guesses will likely be the closest we’ll get.

Hadn’t given much thought to the experiment line that Ovid does, but of all things, that makes the most sense. It is a great way for Ovid to get a sense of the CT scores from a much larger community with limited risk.

I know that point has been debated, but I just don’t read it that way. I read that lot 12 is $300 juice. Maybe it’s leftover $300 juice, but it came from that program. It is not $100 juice, the way that I read it. However, I’d be perfectly happy with $100 juice since I can still beleive it’s $300 juice! Haha

But I also know that Cam commented on this one through Matt and most here probably believe that what you are saying to be true.

There is undoubtedly plenty of Red Mountain, Walla Walla, Horse Heaven and other Washington wine “out there”. The biggest winery in the state (CsM) cut contracts for fruit by huge percentages a year or so ago, and this wine region is just as stressed, if not more, than others, wineries/distributers closing, and redacted offers by Full Pull almost weekly, etc…

The question is, will Cam X expand sourcing beyond California? He had very good success volume and quality-wise in early days of de Negoce, but did he make any money? Only he knows.
