Bulk Inventories Soar to Record Highs as Growers Mull Few Options

A den of enablers… 75% new oak, even French is too much for me. But damnit all. I am in on #12.
After reading Cam’s post and other later posts, I just bought a case of lot 12. I’ll be glad when we don’t have to go through WineVIP anymore as their site is problematic, at least for me. Poor graphics, low contrast, hard to read lettering; even entering my birth date was a problem. I blew out the budget in the last week or so buying Cam X lot 1 and 12 and also dN 553. These QPRs of 80% - 90% are just way too good to resist.
Yes Norm!
These are fantastic deals! Speaking of which?
CAM X Lot 1 2023 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
I’m curious, how well does an Alexander Valley CS age?
So:
OG Lot 158 2018 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Over 4 years in the bottle, #2 of 6. Into the decanter 1.5 hours beforehand.
Oh My Goodness!!! Delicious Black fruits (plum) on the nose, heavenly structure and firm acidity. I like this as it’s complexity opens up wonderfully. This is a great candidate for additional aging! It’s become a triple yum,
.
Versus 33, 49 & 212; #158 is My favorite dN Alexander Valley CS!
Per Cam: “Sourced from same legendary consulting winemaker/producer as Lot 156 and Lot 157. This wine retails for around $200/bottle.” Decant & drink, or, age it longer?
‘Nuff Said?
No one ever claimed that on lot 12. Lots of innuendo but no facts
It is if we go by Cam’s claim of $300 - $400 per bottle wine that he’s selling for $16.58, I suppose if we don’t believe the statements in his ads, we probably won’t buy his wine.
That’s not the way I think about these offers. The question is whether the wines are likely to offer great value for my palate relative to other known alternatives. Making the decision based on the imagined discount from what may or may not be the winery’s full retail price for what may or may not be the winery’s blend (in most cases) is a foolish way to think about what Cam is offering. There is a sea of overpriced Napa Valley cabernet I wouldn’t waste my time drinking even if Cam was giving it away.
Are there any 2022’s that should be priced at 300-400?

I pulled up the Wine Enthusiast vintage chart to see how Napa cabs age compared to Sonoma. Sonoma cabs at their peak now are the 2012s through 2015s. 2008 - 2012 Napa cabs are at their peak now. To me, these seem quite old and I wonder if only really age-worthy cabs should be left this long. I prefer to drink cabs around 9 - 10 years old.

Stop making sense.
But Cam never claimed Lot 12 was any price.
Only claim was that the program had wine at that price range and that it could drink right alongside bottles in the $300-$400 range
The risk of entry is so low, it really doesn’t matter what the real value is. It’s the perceived value that matters. Define that any way you want but the game is set up to make you think in terms of jackpot savings.
I leave a trail of rooted people
Mesmerized by just the sight

From Cam’s write-up of X.12:
“With multiple 98-100 pt scores under the belt of its originating label, here is your chance to experience world class estate Cabernet at a literal fraction of the price.”
1/16 is “a literal fraction.” So is 15/16. So who knows? Take your pick, wherever it might land.
Compare that language with what the CB dN regime said about Lot 551:
“Previous vintages [of this bottling] score in the mid to high 90s and sell for well over $125/bottle direct, but we’ve hammered out a deal to secure this beauty at phenomenal savings – a quintessential Napa Valley Cab from an apex vintage for over 80% OFF!”
Without belaboring the point, 1/5 is also a literal fraction, but in this context more definite. All that said, having read Matt’s follow-up, I’d be a buyer for X.12 if it were offered in a 6-pack.

Plus from Cam:
” Sourced from a (high priced?) per bottle Pritchard Hill estate program, Lot 12 is not only a stunning example of 2023 hillside Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, it is a mind-blowing value.”
All that said, I eagerly bought a second case of X.12! I sure hope that’s enuf?
I’m wondering, Is Pritchard Hill really kinda like Oakville East?

Thank you Norm!
I appreciate your research! Apparently the Napa Cab’s age longer & so very well!
Personally, I have found that at year 3 in the bottle, Magical CS wonders happen!
No proof, just my observation. I’m good with less maximum age say 7-8 years?
I like to catch them before they get tired
CAM X Lot 1 2023 Alexander Valley (Sonoma) Cabernet Sauvignon should be very good for many years to come?
In Cam, I Trust!!! (Palate, effort, experience, contacts, etc….)
I will recognize in advance, Logistics can be very difficult (a real bitch, if you will?)
Good Luck!
Not entirely specific to Cam X, however here is an interesting article regarding the bulk wine market. While super premiums, such as what Cam offers tends to be in lower volumes, the article just the same is very interesting. Look for continued good offers in my opinion.
Thought I would share.

Do we think the Founding Member gift cards will work on the current Cam X wines (pending availability) in a few weeks…or if that’ll be a separate venture entirely? Thinking about pulling the trigger on more Lot 12, but there’s still 350+ cases available and would prefer to use my gift card if at all possible. Hmm.
I believe that is unclear at this point, but I am anticipating a new venture completely at the end of this month, or in July from which we can use our gift cards. From what he has said, he has differentiated Cam X as his “retail” brand.
Great article. I hope that Cam will also bring us some great Washington wines in the near future.
