The Raboli Vineyard in Livermore. Planted in the 1900s i believe. Now owned by Murrieta’s Well (in turned owned by Wente). I think Wood Family Vineyards and Murrieta’s Well make wines from it (and potentially others).

While they do not name it, Laurel Glen’s website says their !ZaZin is “From a single 108 year old zinfandel vineyard in the sandy southern region of Lodi;” so, perhaps further contact is warranted with them.

I went through the “Vineyard Registry” in the back of Matt Kramer’s “New California Wine” book, and I found a number of vineyards that differ from the list. I’m not saying this is the gospel or up to date (the book was published in 2004), just vineyards that may require more research:
Barricia - Kramer say this was replanted in 1995, 1998 & 1999
Bingham Ranch - Napa AVA, oldest vines planted in 1890, owned by Helen Metcalf and Peter Hurd
Chelli - Russian River AVA, planted in the late 1800s, owned by Lloyd and Dee Chelli, Kramer says Hartford got the fruit
Esola - On the list, but according to Kramer, planted in 1924 (rather than 1910), Shenendoah AVA
Grandpere - Was there a discussion about this one? Kramer claims it’s the oldest Zinfandel planting in the US (1868)
McDowell Valley Vineyards - I thought someone mentioned this, but it’s not on the list McDowell Valley AVA (1919 & 1948), owned by Bill and Vicki Crawford
Mohr-Fry - Kramer’s dates differ - 1901 vs 1930s.
Old Hill Ranch - Kramer’s dates differ - 1885 vs 1880
Pacini - Kramer’s dates differ - 1937 vs 1943 (this one in particular makes more sense. Who’s planting during WWII?)

Hi Rick, I posted about the McDowell Gibson Block at the top of this page. I used the 1948 date of planting that I found on McDowell’s website. It is interesting that Matt Kramer lists the 1919 date for his 2004 edition as per McDowell’s website that block was replanted in 1984 after succumbing to phylloxera.
“The 1919 vineyard eventually succumbed to phylloxera and old age, and before we pulled the vineyard in 1984, we propagated a new block using wood sourced from the old vines. We made our “McDowell” Syrah clonal selection from this vineyard. This was our second generation of Syrah vines, which were propagated on St. George rootstock.”
Makes me wonder about if this was just an oversight or if some of the other info may be questionable?

We had lots of discussions about Grandpere - the consensus is that the 1869 date is not accurate in terms of living, producing vines (which is what we are after). How many historic vineyards did Kramer account for?

Mike I see you have added McDowell Valley Vineyard to the list but the date should be 1948 as the 1919 vineyard was replanted in 1984. See post on 4/29.
Don’t know the name of this vyd across from Kunde’s Wildwood Ranch in Sonoma Valley. Some nasty lookin’ things. lol

Really an interesting wine Mike. As you know 06 was crazy hot and this bottle seemed very smooth and soft after an hour’s decant. I might have guessed Merlot but with limited new oak treatment. After another hour the spices came to the forefront and you could get a whiff of medicinal nose and you knew this was classy Zin.

By the way, the Royal-Tee Vineyard in Lodi was planted by Joseph Spenker in 1889, not 1899.
