Burlington, VT wine suggestions anyone?

We will be in Burlington for a long weekend and would appreciate any suggestions for wine stores or restaurants with quality wine lists. Thanks

Trattoria Delia. A really nice Italian restaurant with a quality wine list (pretty sure exclusively Italian). In addition to the standard list, they also have by the glass specials. I had a glass of 2003 Azelia Barolo when I was there a few months back.

I’m not from Burlington, but used to visit regularly. I like the city a lot. Best wine store for my old world/AFWE palate is Dedalus. Also, a few miles outside of the city in Shelburne, Village Wine and Coffee is a great little store. Both stores host regular tastings with visiting winemakers.

Burlington also has two very good grocers featuring locally-sourced food (City Market and Healthy Living), each of which has a nice wine selection. For restaurants, Pistou has a nice, regularly changing chalkboard wine list.

Back in my Burlington days (UVM '98) it was all beer and pub food. Things have changed. I have yet to dine at the Hen of The Wood in Burlington, but I loved the original in Wayerbury. Great food with a decent list. Now if I find myself up that way it’s hard to drink anything other than Heady Topper

All very helpful…thanks.

Been there exactly one time, so defer to people who know what they are talking about, but we had a great meal at Farmhouse, right off the mall. Upscale pub food. Some cool things on their small list, although beer is obviously the focus.

Second Trattoria Delia. Went there in May and thought it was excellent.

I will be there in the foresee future, so I will check the recommendations listed here. Thank you

^This. We have family in Burlington and visit regularly. Whenever I’m there I’m going to town on the amazing craft beers that you literally can’t get outside of Vermont and in some cases, can’t get outside of Northern VT.

I think the food is good at Farmhouse and the beer list is outrageous. Also, even though it’s about 40 minutes away, Prohibition Pig in Waterbury is worth the drive. Same as above, better than necessary pub food and a beer list that boggles the mind.

Although most people don’t know this, Disneyland for Adults is in Shelburne, VT which isn’t far from Burlington. Disneyland for Adults consists of Folino’s Pizza and Fiddlehead Brewery housed in the same building. It could be the best pizza I’ve ever eaten and it’s BYO so you go next door and buy a couple of growlers of Fiddlehead. To top it off, Folino’s has a freezer full of ice cold mugs for your beer drinking pleasure. I assume you can BYO wine too, but I’ve never done it.

Remember, when in Vermont, do as the Vermonters do…try the IPA’s.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Everyone I tried was a winner.

  1. Heady Topper–outrageously good and impossible to get anywhere else.
  2. Dedalus–excellent wine shop with knowledgeable staff. Got a Liquid Farm Golden Slope at mailing list price.
  3. Hen of the Wood–very good food with nice wines by the glass. Had a Donkey and Goat Mourvedre rose that was perfect for the food.
  4. Farmhouse–Worth it for the beer list alone.
  5. Skinny Pancake–Terrific locavore place. My wife loved the hash purples (hash browns made with beets)

Yep. I admit I was originally skeptical about Heady Topper because of all the hype and my general dislike for overhopped beers. But it really is that good.

Not so close to Burlington but if you are in Warren, check out the Pitcher Inn for dinner. Great food and nice wine list.
