If you email them the order they can charge you just for the wine and then charge you shipping later which is generally not as bad as the automatically generated quote. I just paid a large amount for the 6 bottles I ordered but will ask them to upgrade to 2 day.
TWCâs shipping rates are very high, even for short distances within California. Iâve asked them directly and they say theyâre passing along exactly what FedEx charges them. Other local retailers and even some in SoCal charge much less. I really donât get it.
Nobody charges only what FedEx charges. Everyone also charges for packaging to some degree. Shippers arenât cheap and of course thereâs implied labor cost also. Also, many places subsidize shipping, so thatâs why it can seem cheaper one place. But they are just increasing prices somewhere else. All that matters is your all in price.
The last shipment from TWC was about $50 for 8 bottles to PA, insured; I think thatâs not awful. Certainly better than whwc which wouldâve charged me like 200.
FWIW they emailed me: âWe charge our customers exactly what Fed Ex charges us.â
Was looking at these the other day. Had a Moreau C-M rouge the other day and it got me excited to explore more. Any vintages on offer that are particularly compelling in your opinion?
10 is phenomenal; I havenât had the 02 recently but I think @Nick_Christie said he preferred the 00; I got some anyways. 15 is great but needs a lot of time.
For curiosity & comparative science, Iâd love it if other folks opened & posted on this range of Ramonet Chassagne this year. Particularly in the 1998-2002 range. My sample size is only a handful over these past few years, and my âinstinctâ is that Michaelâs Magnum of the 2000 Boudriotte was preternaturally open & soft & luxurious. But, itâs the only bottle of the 2000 Iâve had.
The 2002 was more concentrated, some iron/dirt/density in the middle, and not as velvety. Very good wine, but not a wine youâd mistake for a grand cru, I wouldnât think. Also a wine that takes a ton of age. 20+ years, plus a few hours of air on open.
Michaelâs 2000 had a quality of luxury on it, which (if replicated by other folksâ experience with the 2000, magnum or 750, or frankly any size) would be a startling good wine for the price/reputation. A lot of people at the dinner were guessing GC wines theyâd never had (hence the enormous range), but it was still exceptionally in good form. A high-end Chambolle premier cru with 25+ years of age. Something akin to a Vogue CM 1er, for instance (which, in the 1990s did, of course, get some petit Musigny grapes).
Believe me, I would love it if I saw other 2000 vintage notes on Boudriotte or Morgeot and they were similarly blown away.
They quoted me $95 to PA today for a case. That seems like a lot.
They use a third party shipper so I guess that makes sense.
The best Ramonet CDB Iâve had is the 13, and itâs it close. The 13 CDB is one of the best wines Iâve ever had, bar none. It was a life changing wine. Unfortunately I havenât been able to source any more.
It may make sense for them, but it doesnât make sense for me. With that addition, the all in price is more than I am willing to spend. I emailed to see if I could use my own label, so weâll see if they answer.
Benchmark currently has the 2013 for $153/bottle.
Ahhh, but it says âNoel Ramonetâ â is that a different producer?
I still have a â95. Have you had it? Thoughts?
Fabulous Michael! If there is an elevated cru in red in Chassagne, this is it. Very special with aging too. Thanks for the heads up.
itâs La boudriotte which is a different wine than Clos de la Boudriotte. Noel and JC split their wines. I would have bought it were it cdb.
I havenât had the 95 but itâs probably great if sound.
It surprises me when I order 6/12 bottle shippers for my own use. Retailers are eating $10 each order (I usually pay more)
To put a bow on, TWC got right back to me when they opened today, and we agreed to put shipping charges on hold for now, and explore various options in spring when the time comes. Class act.
Yeah theyâre usually pretty reasonable, as opposed to WHWC with their shipping costs.
